Hope you had a great weekend! I had a busy weekend myself- my husband and I finally finished our DIY chandelier and it looks AWESOME (post coming soon), cleaned the house a bit and started to decorate our living room which will soon become our home office! Random thoughts:
-I LOVE my new Garmin! I finally got a fancy running watch and I can’t believe I went this long without it!
-Looking forward to the 4th of July 5k that I signed up for. Last year, it was 100+ degrees (and I somehow managed to place), so let’s hope I can do it again (but without the heat!)
-This year, I really wanted to make it a goal of mine to train for a “longer” local race. After doing some research, I decided to train for Fort2Base in late August. I chose the longer distance, which is 10 NM (11.5 miles). After receiving an email update from them, I realized that I am WAY behind in my training! So I downloaded their training schedule and did my first long run this past Saturday. The weather was PERFECT so that helped. I felt great! I couldn’t believe I did 8 miles just out of the blue–let’s hope the rest of the long runs are easier!
Have a great (short) week!

Solid week of training! I’ve heard awesome things about Fort2Base!
Are you using the HR monitor with the watch too? And uploading to Garmin Connect? Ahh! Garmin watches are so fun!
I am happy your 8 went so well! :) And good luck at the race on Thursday!
No monitor yet– but I’ve uploaded to Garmin Connect once! It’s SWEET! Looking forward to our long run(s)–will email you about those soon!
If you already did 8 miles are you are good to go! You’re going to rock Fort2Base for sure!
Oh thanks! That makes me feel MUCH better! Phew!
You ran 8 miles out of the blue? Wow, that’s seriously impressive. Good luck with the training!
Well technically it’s the longest distance I’ve run in quite a while- I usually do 3-5 miles at a time during my other workouts. I needed to get a “long” run in to train for my upcoming race. Thanks for reading Alison!
Awesome long run! I was thinking about trying to do a half marathon and worked my way up to a 9 mile run at the beginning of May, but haven’t run more than 5 since then. I think a slightly shorter race like you’re preparing for might be good for me…
Thanks Carly! And that is AWESOME that you got up to 9! That wasn’t too long ago so I bet you could up your distance from 5 pretty easily! Yeah a slightly shorter race than a half seems more manageable in my mind :-)
Good for you for running 8 miles out of the blue! I wish I could get to that point. So far, I’m just working my way up to running a 5K. I’m doing the Couch25K program, so it’s all interval running right now, but someday, I want to be able to just run for a few miles with no problem :) Keep it up, lady!
Thanks Brynn! Yeah the longest I had done recently was maybe 5 miles, so I was happy it went well! I’m sure you will be running a 5k in no time! And hey- even run-walking a 5k is still completing a 5k!–you are lapping all the people on the couch!
