Week 21 Bump Update:
How far along are you? 21 weeks, 4 days…past the halfway point! In fact, at week 22, I’ll be 6 months pregnant according to this chart. Whaaat?!
How big is baby?: According to The Bump app, Baby P is the size of a pomegranate, at 10.5 inches long and 12.7 ounces. WOW! Nerve cells are developing for the five senses and last week, taste buds were fully functioning.
Symptoms:
-Still have some lower back pain, likely due to the moving, shifting and growing in my belly!
Sleeping: Been having some weird dreams and not sleeping so great. Also trying to sleep on my sides, rather than my back.
Cravings/Aversions? Sweets of all kinds (but this is typical when I’m not pregnant haha!), Olive Garden salad with dressing, Carnation Chocolate Breakfast powder in milk (have had it everyday since the beginning of my pregnancy and am still craving it!) For aversions- I’m not feeling deli meat these days.
Fears: Wondering how Izzy will react to Baby P. We’ve been trying to prep her, but I think she will have an adjustment period before transitioning into her role as Best Big Sister. Any advice on this front?
Miss Anything? Ease of movement. I’m not super big yet but with every quick or sudden movement I am very aware of my belly and it makes me slow down a bit.
Generally Feeling: I can’t believe I’m past the halfway point – time has gone by so slow and yet so fast at the same time! I can’t wait to meet Baby P but I also want to continue to enjoy this pregnancy and watch my body grow. So incredible!
Now that my energy is back, it’s been nice getting back to workouts. My go-to treadmill workout is 5 minute walk/run intervals. Goes by fast!
Looking Forward To:
–The baby bump is definitely out and about! I have observed that the bump slowly makes an appearance throughout the day, after meals especially and is biggest at night. Grow baby, grow! Belly button is also starting to turn into an outie!
-I recently won a trip to a resort in Florida via fellow Chicagoland blogger Mommy on a Shoestring and we plan to go in Florida for a babymoon! WOO HOO! Can’t wait to feel the warmth and sand between my toes!
What I’ve Been Loving: We had the anatomy ultrasound last week to check for problems, etc. and thankfully, everything came back great! It might be the last ultrasound we have, so I was glad we got lots of photos and got to see the little peanut. So much love already!
Maternity Clothes? Mostly all maternity-just so dang comfy! I also decided to move clothes that no longer fit into our guest room closet so I can easily identify what fits in the mornings without trying a million things on.
In my November clothing budget, I mentioned that I got a For Two Fitness tank from eBay (for over half off!) Unfortunately, the seller never shipped it and ignored all my messages. Trying to get my money back from eBay but SO frustrated! Luckily, I ended up winning a gift card from my pal Fit Running Mama and got this beauty!
Also just picked up a new sports bra from Moving Comfort. The straps are adjustable, which I’ve heard are perfect as you grow and are perfect for nursing in a pinch!
Boy or Girl: Still not telling yet until we do the gender reveal for T’s family at Christmas. I will say, though, the gender reveal at Thanksgiving was a great success! The story: my family loves to play cards. So we got everyone together around the table (with over 30+ people, some just watched) and played a fun game called “Mess your Neighbor.” In this game, you are dealt a card face down and if you get a King (which is high), you flip it over and yell BAM! (It’s means you basically are immune from elimination for that round of play.) Before we started, though, we told them that just one of the kings was colored either pink or blue. So…no one knew when it was coming or who it was being dealt to. It was SO suspenseful for everyone and such a blast!
Movement: Still waiting on the edge of my seat for the first kick! I hear they come when you are still, before bedtime when they aren’t being moved around all day. We will see! Sometimes I think I feel little flutters here and there, but I’m not sure! I was getting worried that I hadn’t felt any, but the ultrasound tech confirmed that the placenta is right in the way of things, so once Baby P grows a bit more I will definitely be feeling it soon!
What I did/got for baby:
-I went to Facebook to ask fellow mommy friends on books/resources, and got a ton! Needless to say, I placed an order on Amazon and will have plenty of reading to do for the near future!
-Doing more registry updating day by day after reading reviews, interacting with products in person, etc. We have officially started the nursery (will share updates later), and purchased a crib and ottoman/glider– two bigger furniture items we needed. Still need a dresser, but am hunting on Craigslist for one we can paint ourselves and “customize” a bit!
Best moments of the week:
Seeing Baby P at the ultrasound moving about with those little hands and feet and nose….I could go on and on!
Sending out our Christmas cards…

What a cute way for a gender reveal! I like that it wasn’t over the top or anything!
It was so perfect for my family…super fitting for sure :-)
You have such a cute pregnant belly! The ultrasound picture is so cute :) And what an exciting giveaway to win! I bet you two will have such a great time!
You are so sweet Maria- thank you! We are SO looking forward to some warmer weather about now!
Those blocks are so cute- what a great gift idea!
They are so fun, and usable for pregnancy and for baby as they grow!
Please do research on Babywise! Numerous infants have died due to parents following the advice given in the Ezzos’ book. Plus it’s a sad and incorrect way to think about children/babies – as evil little manipulators instead of as helpless infants asking for their very real needs to be met. I know it’s still a popular book in many fundamentalist circles, so I’m sure that’s why it’s in your pile, but please, please do your research on that method.
Thanks for your insight Rebecca- will definitely keep that in mind!
Love those blocks!!! I’m sure those flutters you are feeling is the baby– :) Nice bump you got there– looking forward to watching it grow grow grow!!
Me too! I can’t wait for a real, true kick!
I’m loving all the info in your updates. You look beautiful! The block idea is so creative. As for big sis Izzy, I can collect some good info for you guys ;-)
You are so sweet Kelly, thank you! And would LOVE any info you have for the fur baby :-)
Hey there! Such a cute growing baby bump you’ve got there! As for helping Izzy, when you have baby and are still in the hospital have Tyler (or someone you and Izzy trust) bring a hat, blanket, piece of clothing the baby has been wearing home to let her sniff it. I’d suggest putting it in a Ziploc Baggie or something for the ride so it keeps baby’s scent. :)
Thanks Kim :-) Such a great tip– will remember to pack that along in the bag! Hope you are doing well…we need to hang out soon!
Woo Hoo to the babymoon!! And so funny about Olive Garden salads – lots of my friends who have had babies had that same craving – salads in general, but also REALLY the ones at Olive Garden. Glad things are going so well for you so far!!!
That is so odd! It’s something about that dressing, I think. Very addictive!
It’s so fun to read your updates! I’m due a week after you, and am having a lot of the same thoughts! I cannot wait to start feeling movement. It’s crazy to see how much baby was moving around on the U/S and I still don’t feel it!
So glad you enjoy Andi and CONGRATULATIONS to you! I just caught your announcement on Instagram and was so happy when I saw it! You’ll have to let me know when you feel movement…I’m on the edge of my seat!
Ohhh, you are looking SO cute, Valerie! Love that little bump!!!
