I’ve never really done a lot of thrift/resale shopping before, but a friend of mine told me about a great one that I should check out. Usually, I never find anything all that great and I run out of patience looking through all the racks of clothes. But this particular boutique resale shop was in an affluent community so I figured I’d have a better chance of finding something versus a Goodwill or Salvation Army. Plus, I recent read a post from Simply Sarah* about her thrifting experience and I was inspired to at least give it a shot. So I went with a coworker during our lunch hour last week. And I actually found some great stuff! WOO HOO!
There was also a 50% off sale, which made it even better! I ended up scoring three items (one of which was a dress shirt for my husband) and it all cost less than $25.
I picked up this great button-up Tommy Hilfiger polka dot shirt. With the tags still on it!! And a steal for only $6.25.
Then, I found a coat. (Honestly, I need another coat like I need a hole in the head) but it was a brand new Gap toggle coat in a beautiful blue hue, and it was also half off too! I ended up paying $12.50 for it. Can’t beat that!
So after this awesome experience, I am an official convert to the idea of thrifting/consignment/resale store shopping..especially now that I have made a resolution to keep a budget for my clothing purchases! My budget goes a LOT further when I find deals like this!
I think the key (for me at least) is to check out the stores in more affluent communities. In fact, I have plans to go with some coworkers this Friday to another thrift store to see if we hit the jackpot! I’ll keep you posted :-)
Do you shop at consignment/resale/thrift shops? What is your strategy?
*Side note: Sarah posted this awesome Youtube video called “Thrift Shop.” Check it out…the song is very catchy. And hilarious. And just last night, Pentatonix, my favorite a capella group from The Sing Off, released their version here. It’s fabulous! (My husband and I have tickets to see them in March…and I’m secretly hoping they perform this one!)
I tend to have ZERO luck when I go to thrift shops or consignment stores. Not sure what my problem is. I wish I could find awesome stuff like other people do. Like that polka dot top. It’s adorable!
Yeah I’m usually SUPER unlucky at thrifting..I couldn’t believe it when I scored those pieces! Just gotta be in the right place at the right time I suppose :-)
