Inspiration photo: Caitlin of Greater than Rubies (photo part of this post)
I love remixing items and Caitlin of Greater than Rubies is truly a remix master! She did a winter remix that I pinned. I knew I had to do a style swap and recreate one of her many outfits featuring my knockoff herringbone vest that I got for under $20 back in January.
I opted to swap the striped tee for a red sweater and then instead of red pants, I opted for my new black pants from J. Crew Factory. I picked them up earlier this month to replace my pair from Target that aren’t so great in the quality department (they are extremely faded and worn after a few washes…boo!) The pants from JCF cost just a little bit more, but not much, and the quality is SO much better. And they are stretchy, which I totally appreciate.
Do you look to Pinterest to do style swaps? It’s my go-to when I am in a style rut!
Props to Bri at Work Clothes I Suppose for picking a Third Thursday Threads that featured a pinspired look!

You nailed your style swap Valerie. You and Kaitlin both look awesome. That vest is amazing. Hopefully there will be a version of it, next year. =)
I am all layered up in the post today also, because it has been cold. =( I am looking forward to some real Spring.
Thank you so much Ada! I hope it will come back next season too! Ready to peel away these layers and bust out some dresses with dare I say it…bare legs!
Love that vest. Had I not bought the olive one from Banana Republic, i would have definitely purchased this one. Great style swap.

Thanks Agi! That olive one is such a staple though— I think having a canvas fabric vest (like a cargo vest) and a more water repellent one are two staples when it comes to vests!
This would be a perfect holiday outfit! Too bad we still have to dress that way in April!
Oh you’re right! I know…Mother Nature is a schizo. Ugh!
Love both of these looks! It’s so nice that you made it your own! I have the same thing pinned and wore it a couple weeks ago!
Thanks Laura! Love your herringbone Target vest too!
Cute :) I wore a silar outfit this winter and had the same inspiration. I put my vest away once Mrach hit, but seeing this makes miss them.
I’m still waiting to pack away winter stuff and bring out spring…almost there…almost!
I love the herringbone vest – I’m definitely going to look for one in the fall!
I think this print will be really popular come fall- hope you find one…there might even be some on eBay too!
i wish i were better skilled at searching pinterest for outfit ideas… maybe i will get there one day! i am always in need of outfit inspiration! i love that herringbone vest and it looks great with the colors you paired it with!
Pinterest helps me get dressed when I can’t decide for myself..like my own little “cheat sheet!” :-) Thanks Heidi!
love the vest and boots! you look stunning <3

Thank you so much Mitha!
Gosh I so regret not getting a vest like this. I really love the way you remixed this, swapping the contrast color from pants to shirt. Super cute!
Thanks Bri! I’m sure that the herringbone print will make a comeback in the fall…it’s so classic!
A vest will always be my go-to when I want to remix looks….& this herringbone nails it!!!

Thank you Rebecca- it definitely goes with a lot!
I love that vest!
It always makes me mad when I buy something cheap and then it gets crappy really fast. Especially cheap shirts that get all stretched out after like 2 wears and then look funny! I try to remind myself to buy good quality clothes but sometimes still get suckered into the cheap stuff.
I really like both outfits – and that vest is really cute. I’m glad you were able to get a pair of pants that you love…and that are stretchy! Stretchy = gooood.
I think all pants should be stretchy…but maybe that’s just me! :-)
