September 2016 Clothing Budget
- Down Quilted Vest: $25
This vest is warm without being overly puffy like other vests. And it is a literal copy cat of the J.Crew Factory version at $50 and J.Crew version at $100+. Guess where’s it’s from? Sam’s Club. Yep, I was surprised too. - Relaxed Skinny Jean [not pictured]: $14
Picked these up at my local consignment store on a whim. They fit well when I tried them on, but I don’t care for how Loft denim stretches out after a day of wear. Regreting my purchase, but oh well! Lesson learned. - Knit Swing Dress (black and striped): $15 each, plus 4% cash back with Splender
Comfy and classic, I grabbed these for my fall wardrobe with some SuperCash/promos going on at Old Navy. Similar to this short sleeve version I blogged about, I went with a Small Tall, and the length is perfect. - Chambray Shirt: $27
I use to own a version in a darker wash with faint polka dots and haven’t worn it. But then I found this basic light wash version and have already worn it a few times, including this remix from earlier in the week. - Long Sleeve Layering Tee: $8.50
My old black long sleeve tee was in need of an upgrade, and this one is great. It’s got a longer torso, so nice with leggings too. - Plaid Print Scarf: $10 after SuperCash and 2% cash back at Ebates
In an effort to round out more of a capsule wardrobe, I found this plaid print scarf in black and white and had to have it. Brought it with me on my work trip to Denver and it went with everything. Win! - Striped Tee, similar: $10 at Gap Outlet
Another upgrade to the tee I wore here that I wear all.the.time. - Mini Transport Tote: $0 after Shopbop credits
I treated myself to this beauty, just in time for fall. Love that it can wear it crossbody and hold it as well. It’s the perfect size to hold my essentials when I’m not running around with my diaper bag, which often doubles as a purse. - Ivory Beaded Tassel Necklace: $4 on clearance
Target had a promo on their jewelry/accessories and I’ve been wearing more simple, classic pieces instead of flashy, trendy pieces lately. This ivory necklace was a no brainer, goes with everything! - Gray Stone Tassel Necklace: $14
So pretty, looks more expensive than $14! - Beaded Maroon Tassel Necklace: $14
The color in this necklace is rich and nice for fall, although the tassel seems a bit long, so I may give it a trim. - One Shoulder Striped Dress: $55.95 including shipping
Ever since this dress came out from Madewell, I was majorly crushing on it. We are going on a family vacation to California later this year and knew this would be perfect for it (and for the warmer months next year). Problem was- it sold out quickly. Luckily, I found it on Poshmark, and I got it for much less than what it retailed for. YES! (PS- If you want to try out Poshmark, use code JOIJL for $10 off your first order. I’ve scored some great items on there!)
So here’s the budget side of things…
Total: $212.45– $56.75 income earned (via consignment/garage sales) =$155.70 for September
$600: annual clothing allotment
– $557.68: total spent so far in 2016 {adjusted via returns, etc.}
= $42.32 remaining for the year
Yeah, so I definitely did some damage this month. But to be fair, I was supposed to have roughly $75 more in income, but buyers on eBay did pay for items (seriously?) so I’ll relist those and hope to make that money back next month. Otherwise, it’s going to be quite the challenge to get through the next three months on under $50, especially when it includes my birthday in October, Black Friday and the holidays. We will see how it goes…at least I have these posts to keep me accountable…I hope you enjoy them too!

It’s a lot of stuff for the amount spent! A lot of good stuff too. Do you wear the tassel necklaces around your son? I like the look, but I’m worried about my son yanking on them. Do you find it’s an issue?
I do, although I take them off when I am putting him to sleep or down for a nap because he’s distracted by it or it gets in the way. Otherwise, they seem to work out! It’s the longer earrings he likes to pull…gotta watch out if I wear those!
I thought for sure that your vest was from J. Crew! So awesome that it’s from Sam’s Club (and only $25!)! And that scarf looks super soft and cozy, not to mention cute!
you got some great pieces.
