With all this time at home these days, we’ve been spending a LOT of time outside in our backyard. Our deck is one of my favorite places– great for entertaining, relaxing and just enjoying some fresh air.
Our deck is split into two levels, and we consider the top level our “lounge” area or outdoor living room, and the bottom level is more of the “dining room” if you will.
Recently, my husband and I decided to put some time and effort into sprucing up our patio/deck area. He created a custom outdoor sectional after watching a some Youtube DIY videos and blog posts, taking inspiration and functional tips from various sources. I LOVE how it turned out!

Rug | Cushions | Umbrella
Admittedly, I have been spending a bit of time browsing on the good ‘ol Internets, and have been looking to put the finishing touches on this part of the space. Birch Lane has some lovely options that caught my eye:
Some throw pillows for a pop of color would be great, along with some personalized ones, of course. Then a coffee table in the middle would be perfect to hold a pitcher and some drinks (let’s be real: cocktails). Lastly, beautiful potted plants would add a great finishing touch.
In terms of the larger part of the deck that we consider our “dining” area, we are still working on. We’ve had our current patio set since we moved in over ten years ago and are trying to figure out what to replace it with.
Sunrise vs. night time- such a different vibe!
I love the cohesive look of these options with the string lights we have strung across the space:
The teak dining set is GORGEOUS, combining both comfort and practicality. Add a beautiful rug to give it a cozy feel, along with am umbrella for added shade during the day. The melamine dinner set and jute placemats make for a great table setting, and the antique patio cooler would hold ALL our essentials without having to make trips in and out of the sliding door that goes into our kitchen, and fits nicely in the corner of the deck by the grill too!
Anyone else have the itch to do some serious DIY and home design/decor projects? It’s always so fun to plan out the spaces and see how it all comes together!
