October 2016 Clothing Budget
- Scoopneck sweater: $38
I did a major clean out of my sweaters, leaving me with just a handful of ones that weren’t completely worn out. I picked up this one in a rich maroon color and love it. Hopefully it won’t deteriorate as quickly as since it’s a bit higher quality. - Cotton v-neck tee: $14
I was in Madison where I could visit a Madewell store in person and found this tee to add to my collection. I have a collection of their tees, and the ivory with a faint stripe is perfect to wear with jeans or layered under a jacket or cardigan. - Quilted plaid vest: $19.72
Picked this up during a little family getaway at the outlets at Wisconsin Dells. Black, ivory and plaid all in a vest? Count me in. This has fall all over it. - Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers: $0 after Shopbop credit
Had these on my wishlist and after my stylish sister-in-law’s recommendation, I pulled the trigger. They are so comfortable and literally go with everything. - Sam Edelman sandals: $0 after Shopbop credit
Was in need of an upgraded pair of neutral sandals, and after reading great reviews from other bloggers, these fit the bill. Looking forward to wearing them in December when we venture to some warmer weather! - Barre tank & grippy socks: c/o simplyWORKOUT (styled & reviewed here)
- Isobel necklace by Natalie Borton: $38.25 (other options here and here)
I’ve been crushing on Natalie’s handmade necklaces for a while now and treated myself for my birthday this month. - Brushed jersey tee (maroon & oatmeal): $12 each + 4% back at Splender
These are comfy and a bit longer in the torso, great for wearing with leggings and as a base layer for vests. My closet really lacked plain long sleeves, and Old Navy is a great place to stock up on basics like this. They wash well too and haven’t shrunk, win! - Three quarter black tee: c/o Tapered Collection
Flattering fit, comfortable pre-shrunk supima cotton, and 100% classic. What’s not to love?! Review coming soon!
Total: $148.97– $254 income earned (via eBay/Poshmark sales) =-$105.03 for October
This month, I had a considerable amount of income come in from clothing sales. On the months that this happens, I don’t use the savings to inflate my clothing spend. Rather, I’ll just say it was a flat (zero) spend for the month. I also placed an online order at Old Navy/Gap for this high neck tank (ivory, black), cream pullover sweater, and gray knit tank and at J.Crew Factory for a pair of black d’orsay flats. They haven’t arrived in the mail yet so not sure if I’m keeping them, but regardless, these purchases are covered with this month’s surplus.
$600: annual clothing allotment
– $542.68: total spent so far in 2016 {adjusted via returns, etc.}
= $57.32 remaining for the year
I mentioned last month that I was worried how I would do these last three months with the majority of my annual $600 clothing budget being spent. This month was my birthday and I definitely went a little shopping crazy, but I feel like I picked up items that are within my more pared down wardrobe and within my color palette so they can be remixed with one another. I should have a check at the consignment store next month, which will hopefully give me some wiggle room for Black Friday/holiday shopping. If not, I’ve got under $60 to play with! This could get interesting…
Are you track your clothing spending or thinking about it? I’d love to hear more! It’s helped me learn a lot about my habits…and be conscious about my money, and save every penny, combining sales with cash back sites like Ebates and Splender. If you have questions, post it in the comments and I’d be happy to answer!

This is so cool how you keep track of the spending! I should probably do this next year! Great job keeping on budget!
