In the past, I used to be an avid Black Friday shopper. Although I would never go on Thanksgiving itself, I would enjoy going to our local outlet mall and finding great deals with my Mom and other family– it became a fun tradition and I have a lot of fun memories. Then, I used to be focused on all the clothing/beauty deals. These days, I have more practical items on my list that I am looking for. Regardless, Black Friday (and the days that follow) is a great time to find deals on all kinds of items. Here’s a few things I’m currently keeping an eye on for deals this holiday season:
WEIGHTS / RESISTANCE BAND: I am switching up my workout routine and focusing on more strength training. I’d love to add to my home gym and get some heavier weights and resistance bands. Post on that coming soon!
BOOKS: I love to get up before the boys are awake and try to read a bit (and at night before I go to bed). Some practical/purposeful books on my list? When Less Becomes More (just released!), Risen Motherhood, Mom Heart Moments (currently own and read every morning- SO good!)
DIFFUSER: After trying essential oils for the first time a couple months ago, I am hooked. I’d love to get a nice diffuser or two to have in our bedrooms or other spaces.
STEAM CLEANER: I want to be able to sanitize a lot of surfaces in our home (dog beds, couch cushions, floors, car seats, you name it) and a steam cleaner would be just the ticket. Amping up my cleaning routine with something like this would be really helpful…even when cleaning grout or window blinds!
MATTRESSES: I found an amazing trundle bedroom set on Facebook Marketplace for Blake’s room recently, and although Blake is perfectly fine in his crib at this point, we will need a bed for him before we know it. The trundle bed will be so fun for sleepovers with his friends, brother, you name it! That said, need to find a good deal on two mattresses!
WATERHOG MATS: These Waterhog mats from LL Bean are legit. I bought one for our mud room and it has been SO much better vs. a regular rug in terms of collecting dirt/leaves/slush. They are a bit pricey, but you can use code SAVE25 for 25% off right now– the best price I’ve seen! Sale ends Nov 19th.
A few other tips for getting good deals?
Make a list. I keep a list of items I want for our home, gift ideas for others, etc. throughout the year in my planner. That way, I can run through it and stick to my list when shopping, and not forget anything!
Create a budget. In short, don’t spend money you don’t have. This sums it up well too. Retailers and advertisers are so crafty in luring in consumers- make sure you stick to your list and do your research on what you truly need vs. want.
Research online. Check out multiple retailers for pricing, and check over several weeks. Some may even price match! Check out sites like this one where you can preview Black Friday sales at places like Macy’s which have TONS of options and really good deals- from housewares to kitchen appliances (I highly recommend getting an air fryer!) to bedding (we just got a trundle bed off Facebook Marketplace for Blake…a bit early but bedding will be necessary so I might check this out!), shoes (Sorel boots pictured above are SO good), clothing and much more.
Use a cash back site. If you choose to shop online, sign up for a free account at Rakuten. You can shop at hundreds of retailers and get cash back on your purchase. Plus, you get $10 for making your first purchase of $25 or more. That’s free money! The site is legit, and I’ve been using it for years, saving over $800 so far.
