I’ve become a big fan of vests these days. I have a few in my closet, ranging from a couple athletic + outdoor puffer vests, to a cargo vest, to quilted vests in solid navy, herringbone and this red plaid one. (I think I have a bit of an obsession after seeing all the vests I just typed out- sheesh!)
But I’ve talked about my love for them before: these vests add an extra layer of warmth without overheating, which is perfect for those in between temperatures in spring and fall. And they can add the perfect finishing layer on an otherwise plain outfit.
For this week’s mom style series, I took the vest I wore in volume 1 of my mom style series and made two more looks, taking it from casual chic to sporty stylish with just a few swaps. The 1st look was inspired by this pin I found. The different patterns work well, and the cognac boots are a nice touch (and if I added a bag to the look, I’d go with my this cognac tote that I purchased last month.) Then to swap it out for something more sporty, I swapped the necklace for a scarf, the jeans for leggings and boots for basic black Nike sneakers. Super comfy, but still put together. This swap worked well for me when we were out and about running errands in the morning, then I made a few swaps to transform the look for a playdate at the park and a family walk. How’s that for remixing…and less laundry?! WIN!
Which look do you like: casual chic or sporty style? I’m digging the sporty look personally! What do they call that now? Athleisure? I guess that’s a thing now?

Love your sporty look! I think I need to pull out my vests a few more times before it gets too warm. You can never have enough options for layering in the midwest!
Agreed 100%! Vests are a must for our neck of the woods :-)
I just added a black+red buffalo plaid vest this year which I love. Yours looks awesome over stripes both with the sparkly necklace or with that Infinity Scarf. I absolutely love the Nike sneakers. =)
I just started a new linkup on Thursdays and I would love for you to join me tomorrow with this pretty outfit, Valerie. Thanks, Ada. =)
I think that plaid has been popular this year, but isn’t something that will go out of style so we’ve got some wear left in ours right?! Thanks so much for stopping by Ada.
I have this vest and LOVE it. It pairs so nicely with stripes. I like both of your looks, I’m not sure I can pick a favorite.
It really does- I’m glad I had Pinterest to give me the idea! Thanks for reading, Alison.
Super cute outfit! I love the sporty look, but the casual is great too. Love the vest!
Thanks Amanda! Vests have quickly worked their way into my “momiform.” :-)
Ooh another good idea for my black Nikes – love the pattern mix! And this is some great remixing too.
You are so right on when you mentioned that the black Nikes can double up as workout/regular wear…that’s just smart remixing!
I’m all about less laundry :D And I love these two looks! I’ve seen that vest before, and when I first saw it, I wasn’t sure about its versatility. But you really pull off two different and great looks with it. It is totally such a great layer for spring, and keeps you comfy and not too hot while you’re running around.
Exactly! And less laundry for sure- especially when it’s an outer layer…no need to wash as often!
