Sweater, old (great version here) // Jeans (exact) // Booties (exact) // Necklace (made by me!)
I have several resolutions for 2017- from fitness & health to financial to style. And style-wise, I am trying to commit to a more minimalist wardrobe. I’ve been paring down my wardrobe (and other areas of our house) and man, is it freeing in a lot of ways. More on that later though.
A big part of that process is figuring out what you dress for. So based on my lifestyle, I have three occasions that dominate my wardrobe:
1. Athletic wear (for around the house, workouts, etc.)- 40% of the time
2. Casual wear (for anything outside the house, basically)-30% of the time
3. Work wear (2 days a week in an office setting + dress up for church)-30% of the time
I’ll aim to share looks from each of these buckets. This week’s look is definitely casual featuring simple, neutral pieces. I wore it for a MOPS class and I loved the neutral palette. The camel sweater is cotton, but I’d love to eventually replace it with a quality version from Everlane since it’s a great go-to piece that goes with nearly everything from a pair of jeans to black ponte pants to pencil skirts. I was going to wear lighter booties to match my sweater, but opted to go with my cognac Sam Edelman booties. Then, I added the necklace which has a hint of cognac in it too to tie it to the booties and take it step above just a plain ‘ol sweater and jeans.
Do you want to see looks from all three occasions? If not, which ones?

Yes! I love this outfit and need to do the same thing in my life. Moving really showed me how much stuff I have and how much I don’t really wear. I’m with you in that I am mostly in athletic or casual clothes now with the very occasional need to dress up. I think it’s one of the reasons I was struggling with blogging. I mean, how many jeans and a sweater outfits can one wear? But, honestly, I think people like to see that!
Moving is a great way to kick start a closet clean out! I bet it was interesting to see everything out versus hanging in your closet. I struggled with what to blog too, but it works for me and I really enjoy reading other minimalist style bloggers so I’m hoping my posts will be well-received. Now if only I could blog about workout wear…can we make that a thing?!
There are totally bloggers who blog about their workout wear (and who talk about working out way less than we do!) so I say go for it!
I’m in desperate need of reducing my wardrobe. It’s overwhelming having too many items!

It really is, and I’ve been so aware of it but finally started to do something about the last half of 2016 and am really excited to finish fine-tuning my closet in 2017. I literally didn’t even know I had some of the things I had, so I’m glad to start wearing things that I truly love!
Love yout look and your resolutions! And I adore your necklace, how did you make it? Thanks in advance!
Thank you Sara! I just watched some tutorials on Youtube and went from there- I love experimenting with a little DIY!
That sweater looks SUPER comfy! I’m with you on the workout wear around the house… I swear I live in workout clothes most days!
I totally love wearing workout gear…comfy, cute, stretchy! If only it were blog worthy :-)
I love how you broke out your time. I should try this!
Sounds weird, but it was really helpful to see it and helped me realize that I have too many clothes in certain categories..
I seem to live in workout gear! I’m always on the search for cute workout clothes! :).
I’m a newbie to your blog! I love your outfit, it’s so chic yet simple. Definitely my style!
Ashley, hi! Thanks for reading. I LOVE good workout gear too– I’m such a sucker for it. But when I feel I have to wear “real clothes,” keeping it simple like this is my favorite!
Great classic combo! I love those boots! So chic!

Thanks Ruth! Can’t go wrong with cognac…it’s becoming a favorite of mine!
This is a great look! I love the sweater so much! It is so wonderful to get rid of things that you don’t need/wear anymore so you can really enjoy the pieces that you love! I’m looking forward to following along. Your breakdown is very similar to mine – Although, I think mine is a little closer to Athletic wear (40%) Casual (40%) Dress up (30%). Happy Friday!
Hi Mary! Yes, that is EXACTLY the concept I’m going for- it’s so freeing! Some times, I feel like athletic wear really dominates my wardrobe more than what I thought, but I’m totally ok with that :-)
It’s such a good idea to break out your outfits into occasions! I’m probably 75% casual wear and I love this minimalist look!
