I don’t know about other parents out there, but it’s been particularly tricky looking unique ways to keep kiddos engaged this summer, am I right?!
I want Bryce (our five year old) to be engaged and challenged, avoid summer slide and explore his passions this summer, all while in a safe and small setting. And that’s where Snapology comes in.
Snapology is a national franchise that has won numerous awards for offering hands-on learning for STEAM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math).
Our local Snapology was just small drive out to McHenry (which has the CUTEST downtown with a beautiful riverwalk, fun shops, gorgeous rooftop restaurants…I was impressed!) Anyways, Snapology takes a hands-on approach to teaching children ages 3-14 STEAM (concepts through in-person and virtual summer camps, after school programs, Scout programs, birthday parties, drop-in play and more!
Bryce was enrolled in their STEAM Lab last week. This program ran for a few hours in the afternoon Monday through Friday. In the STEAM Lab, the students experimented with the principles of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics in a hands-on way with guided instruction from an experienced Snapologist. Their programs utilize creative problem-solving as an essential part of creating a fun and productive atmosphere where students can learn, challenge themselves, and practice their social skills.
Bryce created a variety of structures and solved challenges presented in this exciting camp and he absolutely loved it! Each day had a theme (from Minecraft to dinosaurs to superheros and all the activities related to it.) One day he was doing drafting and architecture, another day was learning about the water cycle, while another was sketching up superheroes and building dinosaurs out of recycled materials. His only complaint was that he was tired because he had so much fun! :-D
And they take every precaution in maintaining social distancing at drop off/pick up, wiping down surfaces, hand sanitizer, wearing masks, etc. (The kids even keep their own tub of supplies for the whole week so not to spread germs.) I personally liked that Bryce was getting used to wearing a mask for a few hours a day to prepare him for the school setting!
Snapology is such a great place for Bryce who really loves to build and create. The facilities are clean and spark creativity, class sizes are small and the staff is FANTASTIC. Bryce’s camp leader, Mrs. E. noticed that he was having a tough time with the smaller Legos since he was one of the younger ones in the class and knew he would excel with the larger Duplos, which was so helpful for him.
Snapology offers a wide variety of classes (online and in-person), summer camps, birthday parties, and more. Their prices are very reasonable too. With dozens of programs to choose from, there’s something for everyone. From fun themed programs using LEGO® bricks and K’Nex® to STEM / STEAM programs, Robotics, Movie-Making, Drones and Video Game Design, your kiddos will be engaged from the minute they walk in the door! I definitely plan to have Bryce go back again. He was so excited to go and loved telling us about his creations every day!
Thanks to Snapology of McHenry for collaborating on this post! Learn more about their summer camps, online programs, schedules and more here.
