I realize it’s Friday and we are almost into this weekend, but I had to tell you about last weekend. We went back to Indiana to visit my parents and family, and the first item on the agenda Friday night was Girls Night! We we spent a few hours at Board & Brush in Valparaiso, and I have to say- it was such a blast!
My aunt, cousin (Hi Kelly!) and my Mom and I all got together for a fun night out, and to celebrate my aunt’s birthday. I’ve done a couple pieces at Board & Brush before (see here and here), and always enjoy it and come home with a beautiful piece for our home, all while sipping drinks and chatting away!
I love seeing how each studio is laid out. Board & Brush in Valpo is generously sized and there are TONS of boards on the walls as examples of the various projects you can choose, stains, colors, special treatments, etc. Even when you walk in, you are greeted by a cheery little area.
When I was selecting my piece ahead of time, I browsed through the website and decided what would fit best in our home (size and decor wise) and settled on the “Holiday Cheers!” card holder. But I opted to customize it (which B&B can totally do) and had them update the stencil so it said “Warm Wishes!” with non-seasonal trim instead of holly on the corners. That way, I can use it to display cards all year round!
Beyond the amazing display of completed projects on the walls, the aesthetics in the studio were great. Very pretty and creative use of materials!
Dear husband, I’ll take a bar like this. #pleaseandthankyou
Our instructors were fantastic and led us through the steps, answered questions along the way and gave us some really helpful tricks of the trade.
We distressed our boards, stained them, then stenciled on our designs. There are several options when it comes to stains and white or gray washing, and then lots of options for colors for your stencils too. In fact, the “Paint Bar” totally reminded me of a nail salon with all the polish choices. So many!
There’s my Mom hard at work…she opted to add glitter on the last word in each board. (She actually made these for our house- so sweet!) These will go in Bryce’s bathroom.
And check out that wall behind me- what a cool touch! I can’t wait to hang up my board…now I have a functional way to display all those beautiful greeting cards!
So if you are looking for a fun Girls Night (or birthday idea, etc.), definitely check out your local Board & Brush studio. They are adding studios everywhere because they are becoming so popular! And special thanks to Board & Brush Valpo for the fun night. I’ll definitely be back…I’ve got my eye on a few more projects :-)
Have you been to B&B? What did you make?
This post was in partnership with Board & Brush.
So much fun! I am already planning my next project….or two. I can’t wait to go back.
Oh me too! Maybe a Girls Day with you?! I can see it now…Board & Brush, barre class, brunch and pedicure?! :-)
I’d love to make some seasonal ones next- love that flag (although I think that’s a special workshop?) and when Bryce gets into sports, I’d totally make the one with a sports ball and their name for his room. What is on your list?
Oh my gosh so much fun. how did I not know this existed in Valpo? I need to get a group together to go! Thanks for sharing Val!
It’s fairly new I think…but great spot by El Salto- margaritas then DIY time!? You’d totally love it. PS- love your new blog title and way to go on your weight loss- AMAZING!
Thank you! I’ve had fun rebranding lol!
I already reached out to some friends for a girls night. I’m so glad to have found this!
Yay! Can’t wait to see what you make!
So fun! It’s kinda like paint night. I am not crafty so I love activities that force me!
It kinda is- but instead of having to paint the same thing, everyone picks what they actually want to do (or actually display in their house!) Even the non crafty can handle this, I’m convinced!
Girls day would be ah-mazing! I have a few projects that I have my eye on….a few are holidays (a Christmas one and also a Halloween one), one is the card holder like you just made (I LOVE that!) and there are a few that I think could work for Baby K’s room….maybe I should work there, haha!
I want to do those two holidays ones too. And would you put Baby K’s name on it? ;-)
Haha! Yes, if we (hubby) could make a decision about the name!
