It’s that time again! I received my February Birchbox and wanted to share and review the items I received. (If you are wondering what a Birchbox is, click here to learn more.)
This month’s box featured items to get you “Red Carpet Ready.” I received five items:
Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel Squares– Chocolate is always a winner in my book. It is delicious stuff, but I can buy this brand of chocolate nearly anywhere, even at their outlet which isn’t far from me. Dangerous for a chocoholic? You bet. Delicious. Absolutely. That said, I wasn’t that thrilled that I got this in my box…I would have preferred something a little more exciting or different. Plus, when I went to open my sample, the chocolate was smashed and the ooey gooey caramel center was squashed into the wrapper. (Confession: the caramel is the best part, so you better believe I licked the wrapper! Don’t judge…)
Twistband Headband– I got the ponytail version in my first Birchbox and didn’t like it. It frayed within a couple so I wasn’t particularly excited when I saw a headband version. I tried wearing this headband to work and to workout and in both instances, it would slip off my head (I blame my super slippery hair). I wish it had some sort of material to help it stay put. This brand also claims that it won’t leave a crease in your hair, but it did leave a small one for me unfortunately. The only good thing I can say was that it didn’t give me a headache from being too tight (and for this, I blame my large head.)
Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm– I didn’t really know what BB creams were all about until I got this sample. It’s five-in-one primer, serum, moisturizer, SPF, and sheer tint. I was surprised that it matched my skin tone really well. I applied it like a tinted moisturizer in place of foundation and it really brightened and evened out my skin tone. I still had to use a concealer to cover up problem spots and those darn zits that I can’t seem to part with, but it was a nice change to my current makeup lineup!
Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips– You should have seen my face when I saw this product. Nipple balm, reeealy?! It was originally created for new mothers facing sore nipples from breastfeeding, but it is also used as a lip gloss and primer. It claims to heal cuticles, split ends, sunburns, and even diaper rash. This stuff is super think (thicker than Vaseline/petroleum jelly, but the same consistency and look.) It was so thick I had a hard time putting it on…what a chore! I’d rather use good ‘ol Chapstick or my trusty lip gloss to do the trick. I’m sure it does wonders for breastfeeding mothers though! Just not for me…yet.
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle-I.love.this.stuff! This super versatile spray conditions, shields from heat and sun damage, and detangles. It works on any hair type, too. After showering, I sprayed it into my hair after towel drying it. Then I combed through it with a wide-toothed comb and it worked through the knots like buttah! It even smells good too! I styled my hair as usual and I noticed a nice shine and extra smooth hair without that frizz that I usually get in the dry, winter months. Awesome product!
Overall, I’d give this box an overall score of 6 out of 10. The headband and nipple balm were duds for me, but the hair detangler and BB cream were pretty stellar, as was the chocolate because you can’t go wrong with that- even if it’s broken. I’m hoping next month’s box is going to be a 10!

Me too! That’s always a smart move :-)
I’m so jealous that you got the twist headband. It’s adorable! I just posted the review of my February Birchbox on my blog. I received some amazing beauty products this month too.

It is so cute but it slips off my head! I’m jealous of that nail polish and facial mask you got!
I’m a little sad that the headband didn’t work all that well. I’m always in the market for new headbands. On the other hand, I’m glad the BB cream got a good review. I’ve been wanting to try some and just haven’t gotten around to it!

Yeah me too…but I found another headband brand that is FANTASTIC! (In fact, I’ll be having a giveaway soon!) The BB Cream was great- I’d recommend it!
Can’t wait to see your recommendation on a headband!
sounds like an odd mix of products… I’m not sure how I feel about these random surprise type boxes; is it worth it if you consistently only like half the stuff?
This month’s was probably my least favorite so far but the samples seem to be worth far more than the $10 I pay for it..you win some, you lose some! :-)
