And just like that…we have a one year old! Time has seriously flown by this past year (I’ve heard that is what happens with baby #2!), and we have a freshly minted 1 year old boy on our hands. I wanted to share photos of Blake’s party and document the great day we had!
We decided on a theme after ordering Blake’s birthday cake at Costco (HIGHLY recommend, by the way). We saw a caterpillar decoration for the cake and T and I instantly thought we should go with the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It worked so well because, well, this kid LOVES to eat.
So off to Pinterest I went for inspiration. I limited it to just a few key decorations so as not to go overboard and stress out and take up my time making a “Pinterest perfect” party. In the end, I wanted to make sure my focus was all about our little guy, and the people there to celebrate. And it was just that. Take a peek!
I designed the large banner and Blake’s ONE banner on his high chair. Happy to share the files if anyone would like them! Simply post a comment below with your email :-)
I made a caterpillar with dessert plates in alternating greens and used a hole punch on the edges and secured two plates with string until I had all of them together. We used command strips and hung it across our cabinets and it worked out great! I had captured monthly shots of Blake from each month, and it made for the perfect decoration!
The cake turned out PERFECT! We go to Costco for all our cakes- they are delicious, feed a crowd and are under $20. They have set designs you choose from, but we have come to know our cake decorator and asked her if she could make the caterpillar look like the one from the book. And boy, did she deliver!
PS- Bryce’s face in the photo above makes my heart melt. He was SO happy to celebrate his baby brother’s birthday. Such sweetness.
And of course, the best part of any 1st birthday is the cake smash, right?! He really got into it after the first bite…so fun! We opted to just cut him a large slice of the cake versus doing a completely different smash cake because again, I was going for simple. (Although I found a great DIY caterpillar cake that looked so cute…) It worked out great!
We had such a great time celebrating Blake’s first birthday. What an incredible year it has been. Happy birthday, you very hungry caterpillar!
