As I put together my Christmas shopping lists, I’m trying to make an effort to shop local this holiday season and support all the amazing small businesses out there (so if you are in the Northern IL suburbs or SE Wisconsin, this post is for you!) Whether you are all about gifting experiences or handmade, unique gifts- I’ve got ya covered and even have some promo codes for you. Check them out…
1. For the kiddos/family…
Burlington Community Aquatic Center
If you want to gift more of an “experience” — or a gift idea from the grandparents ;-) a gift certificate for a family pool membership or swim lessons are the way to go! This facility is newly built and truly one of a kind with a zero-depth entry activity pool, current channel, waterslides, climbing wall and diving boards. Our boys took swim lessons there last summer, and we definitely plan to be back there again. The instructors and life guards are top notch, the grounds are incredibly clean, and the pool, recreational areas/playgrounds and locker rooms are absolutely amazing. They have a nice concession stand too with a BIG variety and reasonable prices (the boys LOVE their slushies after swimming…the kiddos got free vouchers for them at the end of their lessons, such a cute touch.) Plus, they have really fun special events and activities all season long!
Certificates can be used to purchase full memberships or issued in any dollar amount to be used on daily fees, concessions, swim lessons and other purchases at the aquatic center. Totally worth it if you ask me, even if you live farther away (though they draw folks from Illinois and Milwaukee areas)– you can make a FULL day here with all they have. Their prices are super reasonable compared to other spots. AND…if you purchase a family membership by May 31, 2022, you get 4 free day passes!
2. For those in need of pampering…and you ;-)
Salt Salon and Spa
This spot is nestled right in downtown Antioch (full of great shops and restaurants!) and is a one-stop-shop for all things hair and beauty! The place is spacious and modern and I’ve been getting my hair done there for quite some time (and a facial or pedicure when I get a chance to treat myself!) They have some great gift bundles and stand alone items that you can purchase to make great gifts, along with some awesome sales on hair/skin products right now along with seasonal themed specials and gift cards.
3. For just about everyone on your list (think teachers / girlfriends / family & friends / babies & toddlers…)
Adcock Farm & Co.
This sweet little shop is nestled on the water in Twin Lakes, WI. They literally have something for everybody- from babies/toddlers (I got the cutest ice cream cone teether and mommy & me coffee cup/sipee cup set), lotions/sprays/candles (made locally- love their room spray and natural bug spray!) to home decor and clothing/accessories. Use code Valerie10 for 10% off select items!
3. For the fashion minded ladies on your list…
Cadorah
Jen, the owner of the business, is a two time breast cancer survivor, and is based in Waukesha (though her items are also available online) and recently donated 10% of her sales to the United for Waukesha Community Fund in response to the terrible tragedy that occurred recently at the Waukesha Christmas parade. The mission of Cadorah (named after her kiddos) is to inspire women to feel beautiful and confident through adversity. She believes that putting on some jewelry every day helps lift your mood and stimulates a feeling of beauty. Her handmade pieces are gorgeous and she has a small line of clothing as well, like the sweater I’m wearing here! Use code STYLEFILES for 15% off!
5. For the foodie…
The Shanty Wadsworth
Regardless of where you live, it is worth the trip to visit this place. Not only is this place refreshingly community-minded, but the food is truly top notch (and was featured on The Food Network!), the atmosphere is fantastic and the service is wonderful. We’ve had nothing but great experiences every time we’ve been there- whether it’s a group birthday celebration or date night or out with the kiddos. They offer gift certificates, as well as their own line of quality olive oil and soaps!
Thanks to these wonderful small businesses that collaborated with me on this post.
