I know, I know. We are already three months into 2016. But I thought it’d be good to document my 2016 health pursuits when it comes to food and fitness. Here’s where my head is at:
Running:
Hit several PRs last year and really enjoy getting some races on my calendar to look forward to. Since going back to work full-time, I doubt I’ll be able to train for another half, but would love to get these races on the calendar:
January: S-No-W Fun Run, Lake Geneva, WI (5 miles)- DONE! Time: 38:59
April: Ringing in Spring 10k, Valparaiso, IN
July:
Race for the Bacon 5k, Cudahy, WI (weeknight race!)
Run for Freedom 5k, Antioch, IL
August: Gurnee Days 10k, Gurnee, IL
September:
Harvest Moon 5k, Pleasant Prairie, WI (weeknight race!)
Hero Half/10k, Indiana Dunes OR
Popcorn Panic (5 miles), Valparaiso, IN OR
Homecoming 5k, Valparaiso, IN
Other workouts:
After doing T25 for quite a while, I have been doing the 21 Day Fix for some variety and really enjoy it. I’ll sprinkle in an online workout or a Jillian DVD too when I want to mix it up. Otherwise, taking as many barre classes as I can…because clearly, I am obsessed. Basically, if I could run and take barre class (or teach it) every day, I would.
However, I’d also love to try:
Barre Code
Orange Theory
a CrossFit class
Shred415
…and any sort of dance cardio class where you learn a routine, like hip hop–how fun would that be?!
Food:
I’d really like to focus on cleaner eating. I’m a huge chocoholic and have quite the sugar addiction as a result (and my skin shows it), and want to focus on eating cleaner. I’ve done Weight Watchers to focus on losing weight post baby, and gave the Hungry Girl diet a try a couple years back out of curiosity, but now, I’m really interested in trying the Whole30 diet, especially after learning/reading more from Bri, Anne and Ashley, among others. But it seems very daunting with all the prep…oh, and the lack of carbs and chocolate and creamer in my coffee and basically all things right in this world!! But I hear that after a few days, the cravings aren’t as bad. I just need to find the time to shop and prep to set myself up for success…and probably wean myself off the sugar before I quit cold turkey.
Any suggestions on fun races, unique workouts or Whole30 advice you can give me? I’m all ears!
Can’t believe it is March already. So excited to officially Ring in Spring soon! Clean eating is definitely doable. I was quite the sugar fiend….the candy in my work drawer was *off* limits (seious injury could occur). I’ve been eating clean for a year (and lost a total of 30 pounds with barre and clean eating….woohoo!). I miss some old comfort foods but finding new recipes that can be substituted is great. My mom started clean eating last month….yes she gave up the Dr. Pepper and Frappuccino drinks. She is currently doing a detox/cleanse with us. If mom can do it, anyone can! I have some great recipes for you and good websites to use, too!
Orange Theory is supposedly coming to Valpo….we need to go!
I know- I look forward to that race and can’t wait to do it with you guys!
And I applaud you on your clean eating– you do SO well with it…so inspiring! And super proud of your Momma too– is she doing the detox/cleanse through Barre & Beyond? I’ll definitely have to get those recipes that you like– anything that has been “tested” and approved by you makes me feel better!!
And NO way on Orange Theory…can you keep me posted? I’d love to try it out!
I love popcorn panic! I’ve only missed one year of it since we graduated. The last two years I’ve run it the years before I just did the walk. Definitely one of my favorite races but OH the hills. First time I ever realized Valpo is not flat :) I did the Biggest Loser 5k in Crown Point last year and that was VERY well organized. SUPER hot day unfortunately but really well done. If you find one around you I would highly recommend them.
I have a few friends who have done whole 30 and loved the results. They did say it was hard to stick to in the long run but opened their eyes as well. Emily at my healthyish lifestyle just did an AWESOME week by week and overview of how it affected her and the long term results. Tempting but I love my sweets too much haha!
I’ve never done it before– is it pretty crowded? And does the Popcorn Panic allow strollers?
I’ve done the Biggest Loser 10k in Racine, WI and it was really organized as well! I’d definitely do one again!
And I’ll definitely have to check out her blog…yeah, the whole sweets thing is really giving me anxiety about doing it- HA!
I am signing up for my first post-baby 5K! There’s a food truck race in Independence Grove in May. Rich is going to do it too, I’m excited!
You go girl!!! And a food truck race?! Tell me more! If it’s stroller friendly, I think this will be a family affair for us too :-)
Ooo! I definitely will be checking out a few of these races near me! I’ve been wanting to do a 5K since I’ve been running again!
You’ll have to let me know if you sign up for any so I can meet you in real life!!
Oh my gosh. I think I could have basically written this post myself (except I’m a newbie to running…) But chocolate, barre class, and interest in the Whole 30? I’m totally in the same place. Thanks for sharing.
So glad someone else is on the same page with me! We’re fitness/food twinsies! :-)
