As I’ve mentioned before, I am training for a 10 Nautical Mile (11.5 mile) race at the end of August. The past few weeks, I have really tried to stick to the training schedule. I’ve done a number of longer runs on Saturdays so far: 8 miles, 6 miles and 9 miles this past week. The 9 miler on Saturday was the first long run I did with a friend. It was SO nice to have Kim there to pass the time and before I knew it, we were already done! Next week’s long run is 10 miles, followed by 8, 11, 8 and 6 in the coming weeks. I’ve really enjoyed these longer runs and I’ve noticed that I am getting a little faster on my shorter runs during the week, too! (Thank you Garmin watch, for providing me all that sweet data- mwa ha haa! #nerdalert)
One thing I have to consciously remember is to fit in the cross training…sometimes putting on a pair of running shoes and getting out the door is all I want to do– not lift weights. Sigh…! Two times a week isn’t bad though…I have DVDs, stuff on my Pinterest board and a punch card for group fitness classes that I can choose between to mix it up!
This past week, I did notice some pain in the ball of my right foot right under my toes. I googled it and saw that it could be a number of things, which got me worried. Normally (knock on wood), I don’t usually get injuries so I took extra precaution to ice it after my runs. Kim mentioned that I should check the tread on my shoes, which I didn’t even think about! Needless to say, they looked pretty worn down. Then I checked my mileage and estimated that I put on 375+ miles on my current pair (I got them in November 2012 and started tracking my mileage at the start of 2013.) I’m hoping that will help with the discomfort…although my foot was feeling pretty good on Sunday and even today. But I’ll definitely be looking forward to getting my new kicks in the mail this week! (Thanks Amazon Prime!)
