Week 24 Bump Update:
How far along are you? 24 weeks 3 days…well into the 6th month now. Crazy to think how fast time is flying by!
How big is baby?: According to The Bump app, Baby P is the size of a cantaloupe, measuring 10.5-11.8 inches and weighing in anywhere from 12.7 to 20.8 ounces. Wowzers!
Symptoms: Feeling like I have to use the bathroom every few minutes– especially when I’m on the treadmill! Also having some lower back pain towards the end of the day, or after a Pure Barre class where we are at the barre doing leg exercises.
Sleeping: Decent. Luckily, I don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, but if I do wake up, it’s because I had a crazy, whacked out dream. I’ve been having lots of those lately.
Cravings/Aversions? Raspberries and baked goods. Not loving quiche or vegetables.
Fears: The whole labor and delivery thing is starting to freak me out. I need to get started on reading my books from fellow mamas and preparing myself! I also hear that they key is just being able to relax and breathe. That said, I’m considering signing up for some prenatal yoga classes…anything that can help me chill out because I’ll need help! Any recommendations on this front?
Miss Anything? Not being so tired all the time. Pre-pregnancy I was able to go-go-go all day without a second thought. Now a long day takes its toll & I am ready for bed by 9pm like clockwork! Also, a good mimosa.
Generally Feeling: Wonderful! I’d say the bump is out in full force now, and I am officially feeling kicks, which makes it so real.
Looking Forward To: Baby shower dates are in the works!
What I’ve Been Loving: T has been working hard and we have the nursery in a good place! All painting is done, including the bookshelf that we re-purposed. Also picked up a dresser that we will double as a changing table. (Don’t worry, a nursery reveal will come soon!) I can’t wait for the ottoman/glider to arrive just so I can sit in there and soak it all in…
Maternity Clothes? Oh yes. And “Santa” spoiled me with a few new pieces too! Now if only the frigid Chicago temps would go away, I wouldn’t have to layer up with 20 articles of clothing just to go outside…
Boy or Girl: Well, I mentioned in an earlier bump update that we were going to do a gender reveal for T’s family at Christmas. It went well! We had each person open a box with a pink or blue ornament, one by one. We told them that whichever color there were more of was the gender! It was very suspenseful…
And the reveal from my side of the family… (see explanation here)
But in the end, I am happy to finally share the news! Baby P is a….HE! #whatcravings
So excited to meet our little man and not have to worry about the he/she in conversation…that was tough!
Movement: Definitely feeling flutters over the past few weeks, mostly when I am laying down on the couch or in bed. Then, the day after Christmas and since then, I have definitely been feeling more defined kicks. SO cool! On NYE, I was laying on the couch (getting over my cold), and I could literally see Baby P’s more powerful kicks through my shirt. CRAZY!
What I did/got for baby: Registry is complete! Found MamaRoo on Craigslist for a steal. Assembled crib. Nursery is now painted!
Izzy: Where’s the top to this baby cage?!
Best moments of the week: Feeling defined kicks, and my parents even felt it when they visited! Incredible…
Baby P was also spoiled with several Christmas gifts from cousins, grandparents and other family. He got some great books for his library, adorable onesies and the cutest hand crocheted beanie hat from my cousin!

And progress shots from the last update…sorry no week 23 photos. Between the holidays and getting sick with the flu, there was no chance!

Fun! So excited for you! I love the idea of the ornament gender reveal, too! :)
Thanks Laura- it was so much fun to see everyone’s faces!
oh gosh, so fun! I’m thinking I need to get myself in gear! I’ve been working on getting the nursery room cleared out, but we haven’t bought anything yet! And I’m so impressed with your working out skills. I’ve barely hit the gym since I got pregnant. I was just feeling so sick the first few months and then I’ve been so tired recently. I should probably get back onto some kind of routine so I’m not completely out of shape!
I’m just so overly excited that I want to get everything done like…yesterday! I am definitely starting to get more tired by the end of the day, so hoping I can stick with some sort of workout plan…I hear that it really does wonders in terms of preparing you for the big day! How far along are you?
You are so cute!!! Love both of the gender reveals and now that I can say it publicly, congrats on your little man!!! The kicks and movement are my absolute favorite part and the one thing I miss for sure. My best labor and delivery advice are to go with the flow. Having a birth “idea” I wouldnt even make a plan (some doctors don’t even allow them any more!) is the best way to go. You never know what might happen or how you are going to feel so just relaxing and taking things as they come is the best way to have a successful birth. Have an idea about how you feel about the big things (ie. Pain management, where you’d like to birth, bottle/breast feeding) but let the rest of it just take its course. Having a concrete step by step birth plan is just setting yourself up for disappointment because, chances are, it’ll turn out totally different! Whatever happens, you and with a beautiful baby. Focus on that :)
My birth plan is really just to be flexible and go with the flow. Oh, and relax and breathe and trust in those medical professionals! (And I’m not opposed to drugs lol!)
Very fun pregnancy update pictures! You look great! As far as preparing for delivery day, like you mentioned, do your best to stay relaxed and do trust that your body knows what it’s doing. God made our bodies to give birth! Prenatal yoga would help a ton with relaxing and with staying in shape for delivery. Exercising through my first pregnancy helped so much for delivery as I had more endurance built up for the “big day”.
Warning, this is just my opinion, but I would say do your research and do have a simplified birthing plan BUT stay flexible so you don’t feel like a “failure” if things don’t go exactly as planned. The most important thing is to know if you want to have a natural birth or what interventions you would choose to go with and what their side effects are on you and baby.
If you have the time between now and baby’s arrival, I recommend watching “The Business of Being Born” – it’s free if you look it up on Youtube :)
Thanks Amy! I plan to try out the prenatal yoga classes- definitely something new for me but would prove to be very beneficial in so many ways. And great advice about having some sort of plan but be flexible about it– because sometimes you just gotta roll with it!
You look great and so excited for you!! Yeah for all things blue!! I did prenatal yoga in my first pregnancy and it was great– now I just do what I can!– Hope you are staying warm! It’s another day off for all of us today– we are headed to Y, lunch and then 35 week appointment!
Thanks Laura! I’m looking forward to trying it…yoga is totally new to me! But it sounds so much more do-able than running, etc. so will be nice! I am back in the office today…hoping to sneak out early- heard more snow is coming around rush hour! Have fun at the Y and the doctor!
