In the past, summer has been my season for a busy race schedule. And while I still love a good race, it’s a bit more challenging this season with a toddler and a now 3 month old. Regardless, I still love to be active and aim to work up a sweat 5 days a week. My current workout schedule consists of 2-3 days of spinning, 1-2 days of strength training and 1 day a week to actually run (which is usually pushing my three year old for a 5k loop in my neighborhood.)
For quite a while, I was crushing hard on the Peloton spin bikes. So at the start of 2018, we made a plan to save and budgeted for it, finally pulling the trigger and bought the bike mid June.
And man, it is awesome. I LOVE this bike. Best investment ever. But that’s a whole post on its own for another time…
I’m coming up on 50 rides and enjoy the workouts so much. It’s been my sanity to be able to just get on the bike and work it out. And ideal for a Mama like me with two littles- I usually do my workout when Blake is napping and Bryce can play or watch a show in the basement. It works out SO well for all of us and allows me to get my workout in. LOVE!
As for races, I did my first post-baby back in July at a local 5k. It was tough but felt great to get back at it! And they had a kids race, so we opted to sign up Bryce for his first ever race which was so fun. And it just so worked out that I will be doing two races in September!
- Popcorn Panic 5 miler, Valparaiso IN (more info here)
- I’ve done this race once before back in 2016 (40:21, 3rd AG) // yeah, likely not beating that this time!
- Zooma Great Lakes 5k, Lake Geneva WI (more info here)
- I am honored to be an ambassador for this women oriented race! It’s a gorgeous location with 5k, half relay or half marathon options, awesome swag and post race party. Get 10% off with code VALERIEP2018 (good for any Zooma race, any distance).
So there’s September in a nutshell. So tell me: What races are on your calendar? Ever done a ZOOMA race? Anyone else have a Peloton or on the fence about getting one? What time of day do you squeeze in workouts with littles?
Looking forward to the Zooma race and the Hero at Indiana Dunes State Park. I’ve participated in the Hero since it began and only have missed one due to an out of state family wedding. Since I don’t have a treadmill, I do my running outside. I generally run early in the morning with the baby in the jogging stroller and the dog on the (new) running leash that goes around my waist (he’s the first dog that won’t yank me off my feet to go in a new direction while running, ha!). Once we get a break in this awful weather, we’ll be outside running!
