A 5k with my buddy… (Man, laying back, enjoying the ride with a handful of Cheerios sure sounds nice, right?!)
After the Wisconsin Half Marathon in May, I haven’t been running all that regularly– whoops! I’ve been mixing it up with my workouts, but I still do a 5k stroller run route with my buddy at least once a week. I’ve been missing longer runs, so I’m excited to do one of my favorite 10k races in August. If you are local, check out the details and join me!
The details:
Gurnee Days 10K and 2 Mile Run/Walk
When: Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 7:30am
Where: Warren High School- O’Plaine Campus, 500 N. O’Plaine Road, Gurnee, IL
Cost (before August 4th at 5pm):
10k: $23
2 Mile Fun Run: $18 (age 18+), $15 (age 17 and younger)
Race day registration is also available from 6:15-6:45 on-site at the high school, with prices going to $30/$25/$20
To register: Register here. For info on all the Gurnee Days festivities, visit here.
What I like about the race:
1) Gorgeous, mostly flat (YES!) USATF certified course covering part of the Des Plaines River Trail on crushed limestone. Great scenery!
2) Smaller race, which means no overcrowded trails and wasting your energy dodging in and out of the crowds. Plus, they start the runners first and the walkers a couple of minutes afterwards (it’s a major pet peeve of mine when everyone starts at once.) Still highly competitive though with awards three deep (trophies for 1st place finishers in each age group + overall, and medals for 2nd/3rd place.)
3) A bountiful assortment of food and refreshments. YUM.
4) Great price for a local, certified 10k race. Plus, you get a technical t-shirt!
What races are on your calendar for August…and September? I need one on the books!

Disclosure: I received a free race entry in exchange for promotion on my blog. However, I enjoy running this race and wanted to share it with you. All opinions are my own.
It’s been awhile since I ran a road race! I think i will be in town this weekend so I might sign up!
That’d be awesome! It’s definitely more of a trail race versus pavement, but there is some of that towards the end I think. A fun one for sure- would love to see you there!
Looks like fun! I was missing long runs too a lot lately, just started upping mileage again! Good for you getting out with the stroller once a week still!
