Navy and Citron Remix: 3 Tops, 6 Outfits

February 18, 2016

I love reading (and seeing) a good outfit remix. From a seasonal capsule wardrobe to packing for a work conference to remixing a single item of clothing multiple ways, they all give me great ideas on how to work my own closet and make lots of “new” outfits to me that I didn’t think I had.  And when I saw my citron (or chartreuse) sweater and quilted navy vest side by side, it hit me…I’ll do a little remix of my own!

For some reason, doing remixes always seems so daunting to me, but I’m not sure why (maybe from the blogger perspective it’s the time it takes to do all the outfit photos?) But today I’m attempting to break it down to its most basic steps to help ya get started!

So I took three tops, added some accessories here and there (think scarf, necklace, etc.) completed it with jeans and shoes and voila…I had 6 fun outfits right at my fingertips!

I chose three tops that I felt were casual, everyday workhorses for me:
1. Quilted vest: J. Crew Factory {exact, option, option, option}
2. Gingham button up: J.Crew Factory {exact}
3. Sweater (citron/chartreuse): Target, old {option, option}

I tried to pick two of the three pieces in the same color palette, then opted for the third one to be a pop of color (though it didn’t need to be).  For those of you trying a remix of your own, you can follow this formula above and switch out the color palette based on what’s in your closet.  Go crazy!

Once I got my tops set, I added my completer pieces: accessories (like a scarf or jewelry), my favorite Madewell jeans and some booties.  There you have it– 3 tops, 6 outfits!

Here’s the rundown:
#1- gingham button up under sweater
#2- gingham button up under sweater + vest
#3- sweater + vest
#4- gingham button up (+ accessories!)
#5- gingham button up + vest
#6- sweater (+ accessories!)

Hopefully this gives you some inspiration as you work your wardrobe.  Which look is your favorite?

And see?!  I really do wear these looks in real life…or when I get dressed up in something besides workout gear, let’s be honest :-)

20×45 summer remix (20 pieces, 45 outfits!)
7×8 remix (7 pieces, 8 outfits)

    • #ad No matter what your dietary preferences might be, give @planetoat a try! I started a few years ago when I ditched the coffee creamer and now opt for a non dairy option. Planet Oat now has unsweetened flavors (original and vanilla) with zero grams of sugar and just 45 calories per serving! The taste is great, creamy and works well straight up in a glass, in coffee as a creamer substitute or mixed in a smoothie or overnight oats. Lately, I' src='http://the-style-files.com/wp-content/plugins/instagram-slider-widget/assets/image.png' class='GraphSidecar' style='opacity: 0;'>
    • I am deeply grateful that our school has been able to be in person since the start of the school year last fall. A large part of that is due to the incredible staff and teachers like @carrie_dorst that pulls double duty not only as an amazing teacher day in and day out, but also as a disinfecting, social distancing, safety checking guru! We are so blessed to have people that care like you in our school, Carrie! Thank you for all you do! ♥️ Nominate a teacher to win a box of @sambucol products (teachers need all the immune

    • #Mondaymeditations I so grateful to be entrusted with these two boys. It is such a joy to watch them grow. I pray the Lord fills them with joy and gives them a determination to live for Him.
