Here you go- proof that I actually wear something other than workout clothes. I wore this to work last week and snapped some photos once I got home (along with my trusty sidekick who wanted in and has a knack for posing– especially with “accessories.”) I picked up this skirt at J.Crew Factory off the clearance rack a couple weeks ago for crazy cheap. Since I’ve honed in on my style and am striving for a more streamlined, minimalist closet, I’m actually paring down my skirts and selling them (and lots of other stuff) over on Poshmark, and decided that this particular skirt would get a lot more wear than the others I owned. I loved that it was black and white, and would work with lots of other pieces in my closet. And who doesn’t love an elastic waistband versus a fitted skirt?! But be warned- I would size down one or two sizes.
And let’s talk about this tank top for a minute. It’s from Tapered Collection, a woman-owned business that I’ve come to love. Their items are made from quality cotton and are pre-shrunk and don’t fade. True to its name, their items (from tops to dresses) have a longer tapered hem that makes for a lovely fitted look. In addition to this tank, I own a 3/4 sleeve tee (styled here) and love them. They aren’t see-through like the tees from Target and other places, and they’ve held up really well in the wash (I do cold water wash and air dry).
The tank is a new release and comes in a v-neck and higher neckline and fits true to size. And the tapered hem works particularly well when it’s tucked into a skirt because there’s less fabric that can come untucked and rise above your waistband like there would be with a regularly-cut top. I added my go-to cargo jacket to complete the look since I was in the office, but can’t wait to wear the tank again with a pair of denim shorts or a maxi skirt. It’s definitely a remixable piece that’s going to stand the test of time!

Love this look – particularly those flats and that style of skirt!! Good for you for paring down your closet. I’ve been doing the same (as well as not buying anything new this year) as part of my effort to reduce waste and simplify my life! :)

Thanks Erica! I loved the unique style of the skirt with the waistband. And I applaud you on your journey– isn’t it freeing?!
Love your minimalist style Valerie. Such a chic outfit. The skirt and shoes are great!
Thank you Ada! I think the skirt will get a lot of wear and those shoes already have!
This is really cute!!! I understand, I’m so rarely in nice clothes anymore and I even work in an office!
It’s been an experience over the past couple years adjusting my wardrobe from corporate full-time to part-time work/Mom-ing. Still in progress for sure!
Great look. I love the patterned skirt and how you layered an olive jacket for a pop of color. Bravo. Xo Jonet
Thank you Jonet! All of these pieces will be remixed into countless outfits- the best!
This is so cute. I love the military jacket with it!

Thanks Ruth. The jacket was a nice finishing touch…I could try it with a blazer next time if I need a more structured look too.
