This month’s clothing budget just goes to show how much I love my Target, Old Navy and J.Crew Factory. They make up the powerhouse trinity of clothing awesomeness…I swear I could spend hours in these stores!
So here’s the breakdown for March:
1. Chambray- J. Crew Factory– $42.07 (worn here)
2. Army jacket- Old Navy– $33.00 (worn here)
3. Lace top- J.Crew Factory– $35.40
4. Linen-Cotton Mini skirt- J. Crew Factory– $38.25
5. Polka dot sweater- Old Navy- $21.00
6. Running tights- Kohl’s– $10.00
7. White jeans- Old Navy– $29.00 (worn here)
8. Fuscia tights- Target- $0 (gift card) (worn here)
9. Sperry shoes- Famous Footwear- $16.13
10. Espadrille wedges- Target– $30
11. Mint flats- Target– $0 (gift card)
12. Turquoise sandals- Target– $7.50
I also purchased underwear, a bra and a bathing suit bottom (which I needed for our upcoming cruise), but didn’t include photos because that would be well…creepy. Here’s the thing though…do you count things like bras/underwear, etc. in your clothing budget? I kind of feel like these are essential necessities so they shouldn’t count. Soooo…I’m not going to include them in my breakdown this time around!
$294.64 Total spent
$84.00 — Income earned (eBay sales)
$32.39 — Minus those “essentials” i.e.- bra, underwear, bathing suit bottoms
$178.35 MARCH TOTAL
UNDER budget by $21.65!!! (If I included those essentials, I would have been over by $10.64. Still not bad!)
Thoughts:
-I went a little shoe crazy this month, but just look at them. Can you blame me?! Here’s my “justification:” Target was having a buy one get one half off sale and I just couldn’t pass up those Sperry’s. They were regularly $85 and I got them on clearance for $15!
-I feel like I can remix a lot of these pieces into different outfits…especially with the army jacket, white jeans, chambray and skirt. I had been looking for items like these for a while and they really filled some holes in my wardrobe.

Oooh those wedge heels are so cute – perfect casual but chic heel!

Oh I’m in love with those…darn you Target! Perfect balance of casual and chic for sure!
Nope, I never count undergarments in my clothing budget. I also don’t count gym clothes, because they’re so utilitarian. I suppose if I started buying cute/expensive workout gear I would have to begrudgingly count those, too.
Ok GOOD! That makes me feel a lot better…yeah I don’t think they should be counted unless you are buying super expensive undergarments that aren’t really “needed.” That’s interesting on gym clothes too- I feel like I have bought a lot of those lately so at least it makes me aware of what I’m purchasing!
Those Sperry’s were a STEAL! I wouldn’t have been able to pass them up either! Great find! I love that military jacket… I have a grey one that’s similar (also from Old Navy, ages ago). Great spring/summer coat.
Oh I know right?! I was so excited!!! Oh and a gray army jacket?! That would be super cute and match with a ton of stuff!
It looks like you found some gems!! I love this post. I am so glad I stumbled upon your blog. I love the design, it is so lovely. I will definitely be following you on Bloglovin! xx. McKenna Lou

Thanks so much- so glad you enjoyed! :-) -Valerie
You did amazing. You got lots of great things for $178. Not sure if you count bras and underwear considering they are a necessity.
AGi:)

Thanks Agi! Yeah I don’t think it should count…but if I really wanted to be strict in terms of any spending on clothing, I probably would include that but not this time at least!
I was just wondering the same thing about things like tights and underwear today! I bought the tights I’m wearing today and a new bra in March but couldn’t decide whether to count them or not. Maybe the tights…
Yeah I would count the tights as long as they weren’t bought as a replacement if the previous pair had a hole, etc. And I think it makes sense not to include underwear in the total since they really are essentials…unless you are going crazy at VS for some crazy diamond-studded underwear which is clearly a “want” lol!
Looks like you got some great items!
I was really happy with the pieces I got this month- can’t wait to make some outfits out of them!!
Nice work, Valerie! I love those wedges from Target – I’ve contemplated purchasing a pair myself, but can’t decide on a color. I never count undergarments, socks, or exercise clothes in my budget, either, since they’re a necessity. :)

Thanks Brynn! Yes, I see those wedges getting a ton of wear. I wanted to get a colored pair too but then I thought I’d get more use out of them if they were neutral…who knows, I might end up getting a second pair in a fun color though haha! (And that makes me feel better that you wouldn’t count that stuff in your clothing budget either!!)
This just makes me sad that we have not been able to wear our twinsie running tights! Sigh! And it’s too hot today!
Hey you never know…we could have another cold blast soon lol! I plan to wear these for my 10k this Saturday- hope I don’t overheat!
So many great picks here – and so many great deals!
Isn’t That Charming.
Thanks Emily- the deals really help to stretch my budget and get more pieces for my wardrobe! I love me a good bargain, that’s for sure!
I never count undergarments in my budget. You need them, and they are so pricey they’d eat up the enitre budget in one fell swoop.
I think you need to wear #2, 3, and 4 together, pronto!
SO true! Ok I feel a lot better after hearing from you and others that they shouldn’t be included :-) The 2-3-4 look would be AWESOME! Be on the lookout for it :-)
I would love for you to come link up to my Tuesday Blog Hop!!

I’m there Tori! :-)
As a fellow shoe addict, I love all your shoe purchases! And I decided to include undergarments and work out clothes in my clothing budget so that I don’t forget to take it into account when doing my yearly planning-bras are usually around $50/ea! But I don’t include tailoring (although I should) or make-up and skincare. I’ve seen budgets that include make-up but no underwear, or no make-up or workout clothes, etc. Whatever works for you!
I know right?! I am SO excited about the shoes this month! Yeah I’ve seen some that include makeup/beauty stuff too..but yeah it all depends. (And you’re right good bras are really an investment so it’s good to budget for that!)
Is it bad if I say that I’m really jealous of everything you go? It’s all so cute! I think you’ll get a ton of wear out of the shoes and especially that jacket. Plus you stuck to your budget sooooooo budgeting blogger high five lady!
Thanks! This was a really good month- I feel like a lot of these items were staples in my wardrobe and can be remixed so many ways! High five right back at ya!
I found you through Fran’s Linkup – and I think we’re shopping twins – I have the wedges, jacket & chambray, and two other items are on my wishlist! :). I’ll be checking in regularly! :)
Oh my goodness- we are twinsies!! Love it! I just followed you on Bloglovin’. Thanks for reading Caroline!
I wonder if our Famous Footwear has those Sperry’s – I love them and they were an awesome deal – wow!!
Go check!! They had a couple of pairs when I was in…you never know! It’s like going on a treasure hunt :-)
