Happy Friday! Today I am SUPER excited to reveal our latest DIY home project…our brand spankin’ new basement bar!
When we bought our house, there was already some cabinetry and a water source…but the space wasn’t well defined. We knew we wanted to add a bar to the space so it would be more functional, and we wanted to completely redo the color scheme too. (Sorry for the tremendous amount of crap…we were moving stuff out of the cabinets.)
So my husband used his handy design skills and made a sketch of what we were going for…I call it the “nautical man cave.” Nailing down the color scheme was particularly tough– it was hard to decide on everything (and then locate the back splash that we had in mind too!)
This project took a ton of work, including painting the walls and the cabinets, building the bar instelf, adding wainscoting and trim, tiling the backsplash, removing some of the carpet and adding vinyl flooring on the ground, and adding wood plank floor on the countertops.
But I am SO thrilled with how it turned out!
Here are some before & after and in progress photos…
Now I just need to hunt for some accessories to finish the look..I’m thinking a trip to Marshalls or TJ Maxx is in order! This project really make our basement WAY more functional and makes us feel like we picked up more square footage as a result! SCORE!
Anyone care for a cocktail?!

Wow! We’re hiring your hubby when we get a house!
OMG! That looks great! I am sure it will be put to good use!
You guys did an amazing job on that!! The pictures are funny, though, because the stand-alone freezer disappears :-)
It looks so great! What sort of accessories are you going to look for?
