I never had to wear uniforms in school, but I remember friends that did. The rules dictated all neutral colors, with navy and white being the standard. If I had to go abide by that dress code, this is how I’d add my own style to it.
I layered the white button up under a camel sweater and added a neutral necklace to give it more detail and draw they eye to the neckline. Then I threw in some leopard print shoes for good measure.

Camel sweater: J.Crew Factory
Pants: The Limited
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Target (similar)
Do you have to abide by any “uniform” at work? Did you wear uniforms at school? If so, what did you think about it?

I LOVE this! Definitely something I could wear everyday too =)
Exactly! Basic neutrals- can’t go wrong with that! Thanks Inge :-)
I love this outfit. Those shoes are absolutely perfect with it!
Thank you so much Barcy! The shoes definitely give it some personality!
I wore uniforms from kindergarten through the end of high school and loved them! Getting dressed was SO easy. But instead of a cute necklace and leopard print shoes, I paired mine with lots of hemp jewelry (hey, it was the 90’s) and some Dr. Martens. I like your grown-up version much better :)
I bet it would save you a ton of time not having to worry about what to wear! Ohhh and hemp–love it! I remember wearing cowrie shell necklaces too. I’d like to think my style has evolved for the better since those days :-)
This is so adorable, and I love that you added the leopard heels. I had a dress code in middle school – khaki and navy/white – and absolutely hated it. I still can’t wear khaki.

I bet that would scar you and create an aversion to khaki haha! Part of me thinks it would have been nice- no thought/time wasted each morning on figuring out to wear, but then no way to express my style. Interesting to hear your perspective!
No dress codes for school here! My friends that went to the private Catholic junior high, though, had to wear one. The girls wore plaid skirts and white Oxfords and the guys wore navy pants and white Oxfords. I did not envy them one bit!
Yeah I would miss my colors and patterns for sure, but then again my clothing expenditures would have likely gone down…
What a cute sweater! And those pants are SO chic, they fit you super well!
Thanks Rachel! I always seem to have trouble finding pants that fit but The Limited seems to work for me! I still prefer skirts/dresses though…
Thankfully, I’ve never had to wear a uniform. I’m sure if I did, though, that I’d do everything I could to make myself stand out. ;-)
My thoughts exactly! :-)
I never had a school uniform, though it would have been so much easier! Just business casual these days, which I think is pretty broad for a dress code. Love your shoes, I’ve been looking for something similar for a while!

Yeah I definitely would have saved some moolah just having to default to uniforms but I would miss colors and patterns! And Target has some fantastic & affordable leopard shoes. Looove mine!
Great pumps! I am lucky I’ve never had to wear a uniform. Even though I love my neutrals, I still feel like I would miss colors and patterns!
Exactly! Although uniforms would have saved me a lot of money, I would miss my colors too!
One school where I taught had the rule of no writing on shirts (as a way of dividing school clothes from those that were “too casual”). I adopted that rule too. But now I have such a hard time wearing graphic tees, even though I love them!
Oh interesting! Yeah the big rule I hear is length of shirts and skirts…so many interesting rules out there!
