How to Keep Your Kids Healthy During Flu Season (And Year Round!)

August 6, 2020

I received this product for free from Moms Meet to use and post my honest opinions. Compensation for this post was provided and this page may contain affiliate links.

When it comes to flu season, I always make sure to be prepared for whatever germs may come our way…and even more so this year in the midst of a pandemic. I try to clean and sanitize on a very regular basis, feed my kiddos a wide array of fruits and vegetables, proteins, grains, etc. but the bottom line is we can’t keep our kids away from all of the germs that float around. We can prevent and clean as best as we can but building up their immune systems so they are at a place to fight whatever comes their way is just as important. I am in no way a pro at this, but I wanted to share what we use in our home!

When it comes to immune support, I love Sambucol’s Black Elderberry products. It’s a must have for us year round, but especially during cold and flu season.

There is legit evidence—as in, reported in reputable medical journals—that it can successfully treat cold and flu symptoms. And all of this with fewer side-effects than certain other anti-viral drugs. SO COOL!

While elderberry won’t necessarily stop you from getting sick, but when you do get sick, this syrup will shorten your sick time by 2 or 3 days. That is HUGE. You can take it when you get sick, but it’s best to pre-load so to speak with the syrup to help build their immune systems. So when we go back to school in late August, I regularly give my son the syrup and then when he gets sick I will give him the maximize dosage to kick whatever bug he has to the curb.

You can enjoy the Sambucol Elderberry Gummies daily. For Sambucol’s Original Syrup, you can either take 2 teaspoons daily, or mix syrup in water, mix it with your favorite drink, fruit juice, smoothies, yogurt or onto pancakes. Sambucol Elderberry Immune Drink Powder packets can be mixed with water and taken on the go!

Benefits of elderberry syrup:

-boosts the immune system
-treats upper respiratory infections
-improves major cold and flu symptoms
-eases allergies
-encourages healthy skin
-aids sinus infections

I love the natural immune support that Sambucol Black Elderberry Gummies offers. It’s high in antioxidants, tastes GREAT (honestly, kiddos and I love them) and contain no artificial flavors or colors and only 1 gram of sugar. They can be used by adults and children from four years old. You can purchase these most anywhere: Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Safeway, and Kroger and more. What are you favorite vitamins for kids or tricks to keep your kids healthy?

We use elderberry syrup that is made locally and bought from a local natural food/product store. Our 3 year old LOVES it and will remind me to take it.

    • I am deeply grateful that our school has been able to be in person since the start of the school year last fall. A large part of that is due to the incredible staff and teachers like @carrie_dorst that pulls double duty not only as an amazing teacher day in and day out, but also as a disinfecting, social distancing, safety checking guru! We are so blessed to have people that care like you in our school, Carrie! Thank you for all you do! ♥️ Nominate a teacher to win a box of @sambucol products (teachers need all the immune
    • #Mondaymeditations I so grateful to be entrusted with these two boys. It is such a joy to watch them grow. I pray the Lord fills them with joy and gives them a determination to live for Him. The influences on kids these days are many, and it can be overwhelming to think of the lies and half-truths they hear (or will hear) on a daily basis. Though I can

    • #ad No matter what your dietary preferences might be, give @planetoat a try! I started a few years ago when I ditched the coffee creamer and now opt for a non dairy option. Planet Oat now has unsweetened flavors (original and vanilla) with zero grams of sugar and just 45 calories per serving! The taste is great, creamy and works well straight up in a glass, in coffee as a creamer substitute or mixed in a smoothie or overnight oats.
