As Anne pointed out on her blog, it is 41 days away from race day! Whoa. Where did that time go? I feel like Chicago has been buried under severe cold, blustery winds and snow foreverrr. Ugh. Needless to say, my half marathon training has been going well and I’ve stuck to my plan thus far! Kim help set up a training schedule for me, which has been super helpful!
So far, I’ve done a number of long runs (talked about here), and try to squeeze in 3-5 mile runs twice or three times during the weekdays.
Other weekdays are spent doing strength training or various group fitness classes…one of which was a barre class! I have been looking forward to finding a studio since the place I used to go to closed shop. I tried out a “Breaking down the Barre” class at Pure Barre and it was awesome! More info on that in another post…

Since I reported out through Feb 22, my long runs have been:
March 1: 8 miles (77 min)
March 8: 8 miles (76:30 min)
March 16: 7.6 miles (71 min)
March 22: 9 miles (85 min)

I have, however, been a bit of a running hermit. All of my long runs thus far have been on the treadmill. Quite frankly, the temps, combined with snow & ice, just don’t agree with my body..so to the ‘mill I went. Luckily, I’ve been doing lots of intervals and sprints to keep things interesting. Oh, and watching Real Housewives on Bravo.
Luckily, the weather for next weekend’s long run (10 miles) is looking nice and spring like, so I plan to hit the pavement with Kim so I can get used to outdoor conditions! So looking forward to it!
Training plans for this week include:
Monday: Tabata class
Tuesday: Muscle Sculpt class & 4-5 mile run
Wednesday: Core class & 3ish mile run
Thursday: Muscle Sculpt class
Friday: PowerPump class + 3ish mile run?
Saturday: rest?
Sunday: 10 miles with Kim!
Are you training for any races this spring? How’s it going?
Sounds like you’re doing great! Are you doing the cheese half too?
I am SO over this winter, I did 8 today and it was blustery and cold :( I want spring, darn it!
Enjoy your run next week! Running with friends is so much nicer, I hope it flies by for you!
Thanks Heather! Yes I am- I hope to see you there!!!
I am SO impressed that you did 8 outside…I would be frozen and immobile the rest of the day, thawing out lol!
Oh! I meant too because I know Kim and Anne are. My husband and his best friend are, so I’m not since he and I can’t run the same races right now with my son so teeny. I am probably not going…although I might do the family run/walk…I am more and more tempted because so many bloggers I follow are going! I kind of feel like a fangirl haha.
I totally get that with your son! But the family run/walk sounds like fun! I’d love to meet you in person if you end up going!
I’m glad you could go to the Barre class on Friday – can’t wait to hear about it! I hope they’ll offer another one like that, I’d like to check it out sometime.
I’m impressed that you’re able to run so many miles on the treadmill! I start going a little crazy after 3 or 4!
Yes! It was awesome (and tough, but in a good way). Their next complimentary Breaking Down the Barre class is this Sunday at 1pm. They post them on their Facebook page to give people a heads up https://www.facebook.com/purebarredeerfield. I’ll email you about attending a regular class sometime next week maybe?!
Aw bummer, Sunday is the Shuffle so there’s no way I could get up to Deerfield by 1. but I’ll keep an eye out for another one that works!
I’m with you on the treadmill runs. I just don’t enjoy cold weather running AT ALL. I’m hoping that maybe, just maybe, an outdoor run will happen this weekend after my out of town friends leave.
Amen sistah! This weekend should be decent outside…hope you can get a run in! :-)
It’s hard training for early spring races. I hate running on the treadmill so my applause to you! I love that you are incorporating so many classes into your training!
I knew that would be a challenge with the race in spring…but as long as I can getting in the miles and doing some long runs outside, I should be good (I hope!)
Wow! A class every day this week! You go girl! Do you take classes on the way home from work or on lunch break? Are those all at the same place? I am curious – ha, since you know, the only classes I “take” are the ones I teach.
I am looking forward to our run! :) And I hope it’s warm enough for you!
LOL, that is a funny hand position for the Navy Pier shirt girl.
A little bit of both, depending on what I have going on re: meetings or after work engagements. Most are at the company gym because it’s just so convenient but I love doing classes outside of work too (clearly!) SO looking forward to hitting the pavement with you!
That is so awesome your company gym offers all those classes!!! Do you have to pay for them? I don’t mean to be nosy, I just like learning about these things (it relates to my work, too – whether we find a space for a client with a gym or they use one across the street, etc.).
Sunday looks warm! Tooooooo warm!!! :P :P :P jk ;)
Wow, I could not imagine doing 8 miles on the treadmill! I would rather freeze than do that, so good for you!!
Haha I’m the opposite…being frozen makes me miserable! :-) Too funny! But hey…running is running- and it’s all good!
Wow, you’re rocking it! I can’t wait to hear about the Barre class!
Thanks lady! You should try a class with me- SO awesome!
I would love that, which location!?
Deerfield…link is in the blog post. They are offering a free class to bloggers! Anne told me the opened recently- we are looking to go together in April at a 6pm class- could you swing that?
They also have a complimentary “Breaking Down the Barre” class this Sunday at 1pm…they offer them at random times and promote via FB. That’s what I just took on Friday…really great!
I think this is so great Valerie! Way to go!
Thanks for your support Ginny!
