Happy (late) Thanksgiving! Now that the food coma has worn off and the Black Friday sales are over, I thought I’d recap my long weekend in Indiana. It was so nice to be off for a long weekend and to be with family! It was a fun-filled few days!
Here are the highlights:
My cousin and her husband (my cousin-in-law– is that the official title?!) and I did a 5k Turkey Trot. This is the 2nd year I’ve done this one, and luckily, the weather was semi decent! It really was a “quick and dirty” 5k…I didn’t know how to pace myself because there were NO mile markers in the course…who does that?! Especially for a good sized race with 3,000 runners, but I digress… Needless to say, I finished in 26:14, which I was impressed with since it was still quite chilly and placed 11th in my age category!
By the way, I wore this AMAZING Under Armour top that I recently got from the outlet (similar here). It is a from their Cold Gear line and is the Base 3.0 (meaning it protects against really really cold conditions). I get cold really easily and I just love this top…the extra long sleeves keep my hands warm and the waffle weave design kept me nice and toasty while we waited to start without having to wear 10 layers and look like the kid from A Christmas Story. :-)
So as I was running, came across a running pet peeve of mine: scantily clad runners. I kid you not, there was a female runner in bike shorts and a sports bra running in 40 degree weather. Ummm hellllo?! That’s ridiculous! Last time I checked, wearing close to nothing doesn’t make you run faster (in fact, I passed her up early on. HA!) Even if I had a rockin body, I would NEVER run in just a sports bra. I just think it’s totally unnecessary…is anyone else with me?!
Maybe next time, I’ll get a shirt that says “I run faster with clothes on” or “Cool kids wear clothes when they run.” Or something like this guy, which I think it’s pretty badass if you ask me!
Anyways, after the race, we headed over to my Grandpa’s house for Thanksgiving with the family. I wanted to bring a couple dishes, so I checked out Pinterest (what else?!) and got the inspiration for this little gobble gobble veggie tray:
I also made some Pilgrim hat cupcakes! (Not the prettiest but they tasted pretty darn good!)
After eating and visiting with the family, we went back to my parents place with my cousins and aunt and did our usual routine: got up at 4am to go Black Friday shopping (too bad you can’t see the clock in the photo, but trust me– it was early!) Now don’t judging…I am not one of those crazies that shops ON Thanksgiving…and we don’t push and shove for a TV at Best Buy or yoga pants from Victoria’s Secret. Instead, we go to the outlet mall and shop for a variety of things! We’ve been doing this for a few years now and it works out so well because the outlets open at midnight and that is when all the intense shoppers go. So by the time we get there, it’s easy breezy! No lines, no craziness and all the same sales! Love it!
I didn’t find too much…got a couple things for my husband and Dad, but did find running leggings from Under Armour on clearance that matched my top so I was really excited about that (similar here). Also picked up some soaps from Bath & Body Works and a couple of earrings/necklaces from the Loft for half off. The #1 item I was hoping to buy were the Aldo boots that I talked about here, but they didn’t have my size and weren’t on sale! (Needless to say, I did find a coupon code online and ended up getting them on Cyber Monday- woo hoo!)
Overall, it was a very nice Thanksgiving weekend. I can’t believe it’s going to be December! I’ve gotta start putting up my decorations…it should be almost 60 this weekend so I won’t complain too much about putting up lights outside :-) Hope all of you had a lovely Thanksgiving! Gobble Gobble!
