Remember when I blogged about my outfits and personal style? Yeah, me too. So today, I’m going back to where the blog began with a good ‘ol outfit post! YES!
So post baby #2 almost 6 months ago (crazy!), I’ve been doing a bit of a closet refresh, really focusing on my personal style and keeping only select items that fit well, are in the colors I wear most, and work for my lifestyle. I love the idea of a more minimal wardrobe full of things you love – and less money spent on clothing too. (If you want a bit more background, check out this amazing post…agree 100%.)
Some of the pieces that I’ve held onto are from Everlane, a favorite brand of mine. Their items are ethically made and higher quality compared to some of the other brands I wear. In fact, I was recently sent The Cashmere Crew and The Authentic Stretch Mid Rise Skinny Ankle Jean to share and review, which I’m so thrilled to be able to try out.

Sizing:
For the denim, I opted for the 29 ankle version and am glad I did. At 5’5″, the inseam on the regular version would have been a bit long for my liking. I’d say it fits true to size as well. I do feel the rise is a bit higher than other mid-rise denim I’ve worn, and it sits right at/below my belly button. But doesn’t bother me too much since I’m constantly bending over with my kiddos and appreciate the extra coverage. The dark blue wash is great without being too dark, so it doesn’t conflict with black (one of my go-to colors in my wardrobe). I got the stretch denim, and was hoping for a bit more give to them. While there certainly is some elasticity there, it’s not super stretch if that’s what you are looking for. But on the plus side, they don’t seem to get super loose or baggy like other stretch denim I’ve worn. (That’s the worst when you are hiking your jeans up constantly, right?!) That alone is a huge plus. And although I forgot to take a photo of the back of the jeans, the pockets are great– not too big, and placed well…not too far on the hips, not too close together. The pocket placement can really make or break a good pair of jeans and affect how your backside looks!
For the sweater, the medium was a great fit, true to size for me. This sweater is pure perfection and at a great price point for cashmere. It’s warm without making you overheat (perfect for snuggles with my boys). It’s lightweight (not see through) with a slightly relaxed fit and has nice detailing at the cuffs. Worth the investment- it is timeless and will never go out of style! Plus, it can be worn in a TON of different ways. And it is SO SOFT. Like I never want to take it off soft. Love!
Styling:
The ankle length denim pairs really well with a pointed toe, and it helps elongates the legs a bit in my opinion. It could work really well with booties too since I would only need to cuff them once, if at all. (I don’t like to double or triple cuff my denim because it creates bulk and always seems to come undone.) This denim fits tighter around the ankle so there isn’t any bagginess to it.
I don’t have the longest torso, but the front half tuck on this sweater seems to work really well with the denim, despite the higher rise. Since it’s so lightweight, it could easily be layered under a vest, blazer or jacket without adding bulk.
I opt to just keep it simple and minimal, with a long tassel necklace and a coordinating shoe that pulls color from the necklace– something you’ll see in a lot of my outfits. Just something that works for me and has become part of my “uniform.” This outfit really sums up my style- comfortable, simple and classic AKA my jam.
Care:
To preserve the life of my denim, I try to wash it after I’ve worn it 2-3 times (denim is made to hold up for multiple wears before washing according to articles I’ve seen). I wash it inside out to prevent fading and hang it to dry. Everlane recommends dry cleaning on the sweater, but I’ve found that my at home Dryel works well.
For delicates like this and my denim, I love to use The Laundress products. They are specially designed for use with delicate and high-quality fabrics are 100% biodegradable, natural, and cruelty-free. I get mine from Shopbop (shopping online is the best, easiest, fastest…amiright?), and there is “Buy More, Save More” sale today through Sunday, Nov 25th with 15-25% off. (Plus, earn additional cash back with a free Ebates account if you don’t have one already. It’s free money and totally adds up if you do ANY shopping online.) Shop The Laundress products here.
So if you are doing any Black Friday shopping, support a brand like Everlane. In fact, every year on Black Friday, they donate their profits to give thanks and give back. This year, they have a partnership with Surfrider to clean up 19,000 pounds of plastic from beaches across the country! For every order made on Black Friday, Everlane will donate $13 to Surfrider to fund beach cleanups across the country. Every $13 gets one pound of trash off the beach. I am eyeing up their Ankle Work Pant this Friday since my current pair is on its last leg (pun intended). If you are interested in me reviewing those (or anything else from Everlane), let me know. All the pieces I own from Everlane have held up well and are true workhorses in my closet, and I’m so glad to be able to add these two pieces to my wardrobe!
