I was looking back at some old photos (photos I took prior to starting this blog) and wanted to share a few DIY/Home Improvement projects my husband and I did at our house over the past couple years. I feel like we are very similar to Justin and Cassity of Remodelaholic.com, because our idea of a fun date is building/painting/scheming our next home improvement project :-)
One of these such projects was our entertainment center.
When we bought our house, these two bookshelves came with it, as well as that huge, boxy TV (basically the previous owners didn’t want to take it with them because it was so big, bulky and hard to move. Lucky us.)
The TV was set back in a hole which I think was the start of a fireplace, but for some reason, the previous owners didn’t go that route.
I loved the bookshelves and liked how the balanced out the room and knew we would eventually upgrade to a flat screen TV so I started brainstorming…
My husband sketched up this plan based on what I was going for. (Don’t ask why he put a screen shot of Avatar on the TV screen…I think he was just trying to show off his Auto-CAD skills if you ask me! ) I loved the wainscoting look and thought it would be perfect to cover the hole, plus the drawers added extra storage for blankets, Wii games, DVDs, etc.
Luckily, my father-in-law helped us out by helping to build the set of drawers at the bottom. Tyler got all the measurements spot on and added the trim along the top to “connect” the pieces to make it look like a seamless piece and added rounded trim along the bottom and we ended up with this amazing custom entertainment center!
I love it! It looks so much better than before, and you matched the existing book cases perfectly!
Does your husband work in the design field?
Aww thanks Kim! My husband is actually an electrical engineer…but he loves doing projects at home- super handy!
Wow that looks SO good!!
Thanks Sarah– kinda similar to yours with the bookshelves!
