We have a half bath off our kitchen. It’s great, but it has a pedestal sink and that’s about it…meaning not a lot of storage. I definitely needed some sort of cabinet to house all that bathroom stuff (towels, toilet paper, kleenex, etc.) At first, I was thinking of buying (or possibly building) an ornate cabinet or heck, even getting a new vanity altogether. But all I saw were dollar signs.
Then my inner DIY freak decided to speak up…
Naturally, I took to Pinterest to start to brainstorm. Instantly, I was sold on the idea of floating shelves. I didn’t have to hide all our bathroom essentials…I could use them as decor and have things out in the open!
I found several iterations of DIY floating shelves for multiple rooms of the house and knew they would be perfect for a bathroom. And T (being the handy husband that he is) was definitely on board to sketch up some plans and make us a few. (In fact, we decided to make some longer ones for our dining room, but that’s another post…)
I LOVE how they turned out. It really adds some style to the room and definitely makes it feel bigger, believe it or not. We could have gone the entire width of the back wall, but we opted to make them shorter since I didn’t have all that much stuff to store.
It’s great to have things like kleenex, towels, air diffusers and toilet paper at easy reach without taking up counter space. And speaking of toilet paper…I’ve gotta share a new-to-me version that I’m loving. (Yes, I’m talking about toilet paper. Because we all buy it…it’s kinda necessary!) And I’m a firm believer that the kind of TP you buy really matters.
This toilet paper is called Charmin Essentials Strong. (There’s also a Charmin Essentials Soft version too.) Honestly- this stuff is pretty strong! Strong enough to stand up to Bryce pulling it through the bathroom and well into the kitchen without it even breaking if that gives you an idea. It’s also soft (not paper-like…the worst!) and comes in a HUGE roll, meaning I don’t have to switch them out constantly. And the best part? It’s at a comparable price compared to leading bargain brands. What’s not to love? Soft, durable and fits in the ‘ol budget!
In fact, Charmin is inviting shoppers to upgrade their Angel Soft® for Charmin Essentials Soft and Scott® 1000 for Charmin Essentials Strong. To participate, people can simply tweet their TP swap out request to @Charmin using the hashtag #CharminEssentials and #Promotion, and Charmin will send you a free roll! (Read the terms & conditions here.)
So definitely give this TP a try. It’s definitely delivers on the strong factor, and lasts so much longer than a typical roll. Perfect so you can have some rolls out on floating shelves as “functional decor” without having to constantly replenish!
DIY floating shelves in the bathroom…whattya think? What else would you store on these? Would you use them anywhere else in your house?
Those look awesome! When we finally own a place I’m totally adding that to the to do list
YES! That would be an awesome touch to a new space…I can’t tell you how much they’ve added to our space. Really transforms the room!
Very nice, a complement to your decor and adaptable to any available stretch of wall. I like that the material used can be widely varied and designed to increase the perception of space.
Very adaptable for sure! It’s a great way to add some dimension and texture to a blank wall while adding practical display/storage space. Thanks Olivia!
