My husband and I have been having quite a few guests/visitors to our house and whenever that happens, I go on a cleaning spree. I get some weird OCD mentality where I feel like every speck of dust must be gone. I must think that people will judge me if my house is nasty dirty…don’t we all?! ;-)
Good ‘ol Pinterest has a TON of cleaning and organization ideas. Over the past few months, I’ve done the following:
–Cleaned my dishwasher (seemed to work)
–Cleaned our vinyl wood plank flooring (works well, but I read a different way to do it and like it better- the new method is using half vinegar half hot water)
–Cleaned the shower and tub (LOVE this– super easy to do and looks great!)
–Cleaned the blinds with a sock soaked in vinegar/water (results were just ok)
–Cleaned our pillows (noticed a big difference afterwards)
-Cleaned our toilet with baking soda and with a Magic Eraser, which didn’t work well- I will stick with my Lysol toilet bowl cleaner, thank you very much!
–Cleaned our mattresses (noticed a good difference afterwards!)
But I came upon a new cleaning trick from Happy Home that I recently tried and wanted to share on the blog…how to deep clean your stainless steel sink!
Spraying your sink with a cleaner will certainly clean the surface, but this seems to be a great way to really clean deep down and sanitize your sink.
To start, collect your supplies. You’ll need:
– Vinegar (in a spray bottle)
– Baking Soda
– Boiling Water
– Goo-Gone
– Olive Oil
– Sponge
– Paper Towels or Rag
– Boiling hot water in a large pot
And that’s it! I think it made a difference, don’t you? (I took these photos with my smartphone so they aren’t the best but you get the idea!)

I’m so glad to know I’m not alone with the whole cleaning rampage!
Yep, I clean like a crazy person before people come over. Well, before MY friends (and family) come over. My husband’s friends are all college undergrads (yes, he’s an undergrad at the age of 34) so I know they don’t care. I really want to try the trick I saw on Pinterest where you put all your burner pans in plastic bag with vinegar (or something like that) and just let them sit and then rinse them off. What did we do before Pinterest??
That’s too funny–totally know what you mean (my brother-in-law is in college and when he comes to visit, I don’t worry as much because I know he won’t judge.) And YES I want to try that one too! Before Pinterest, I basically had no style, lived in a pile of filth and only ate mac n’ cheese. Basically :-)
Holy crap! You even cleaned your blinds and mattresses!! My guests are lucky if I mop haha
Yeah…that’s a once a year thing- if I’m lucky haha!
WOW. I am totally impressed!
Yeah I was too– I think it worked well! (Not that I’m going to do this every week–yeah right!)
