Happy Friday! So here at the office we have Casual Fridays, which I love. So I put together this outfit...definitely casual, but a little chic too (or at least I hope!) Before diving into Pinterest and other fashion style blogs, I was unsure if I could do a striped sweater with a statement necklace like this (figured it might be too much going on, etc.) In the past, I would only think to wear this necklace with a plain color (i.e.- black, white, cream, gray, etc.) But I like the look of the Read More
Tis the Season!
Happy December! It's officially Christmastime in our house! We put our tree up last night...I love going through the ornaments, remembering the story/memories behind each one. I LOVE Christmas! We also put up a few lights outside this year. (In the future, I'd LOVE to do icicle lights on the whole house...it's so pretty!) I went outside to take this photo last night (get ready for it...) in shorts and a t-shirt! It was almost 70 degrees. In December. In Chicago. I'll take it! I made Read More
Gobble Gobble!
Happy (late) Thanksgiving! Now that the food coma has worn off and the Black Friday sales are over, I thought I'd recap my long weekend in Indiana. It was so nice to be off for a long weekend and to be with family! It was a fun-filled few days! Here are the highlights: My cousin and her husband (my cousin-in-law-- is that the official title?!) and I did a 5k Turkey Trot. This is the 2nd year I've done this one, and luckily, the weather was semi decent! It really was a "quick and dirty" Read More
Healthy recipe gems
I'm sure everyone has Thanksgiving dinner on the mind right now (me included!), but I wanted to share a couple of "hidden gems" that I've made the past week that are super delicious AND healthy! Imagine that! So the first is a homemade granola. My boss brought in a batch and I couldn't stop eating it! Most store-bought granola is pretty high in calories and sometimes fat & sugar. So being able to make it from scratch allows you to control what goes in it and customize it to your Read More
I heart cupcakes.
I am officially smitten with cupcakes. I have a VERY large sweet tooth and I love to bake- so cupcakes seem like the perfect outlet because they have built-in portion control! Genius! I've been making cupcakes for awhile (even got a paying gig once before!) and have been promoted to the "Chief Executive Baker" at work. I love to experiment with new recipes/ideas that I find on Pinterest, and usually my coworkers get the benefit of it. I even have a couple of great mantras in my office (it's Read More
Early to Rise
During the months when it is semi-decent outside (for me, roughly May through October), I love to run outside! There are tons of great trails in our community, and even our neighborhood has a great route that I use too. I usually sign up for races in the area as something to “train for” and to look forward to. One of my favorite races this year was the Biggest Loser 10k. I got a LivingSocial deal for a great price, and it included VIP status, so my friend and I snagged it up and enjoyed the Read More
Happy Fall, Y’all!
I love fall! Time for football, corn mazes, campfires & s'mores, pumpkin themed drinks and busting out the sweaters, coats and boots from the wardrobe! So on the topic of fall wardrobe options, I've been on the hunt for a pair flat of cognac boots. I've seen countless blogs and Pinterest finds with outfits that feature cognac boots and I'm dying to put some of my own outfits together! Unfortunately, all of the boots I've been seeing at stores or online look more like riding boots and I Read More
Let’s do this…
Hello world! I’m Valerie- a twentysomething working girl with a background in Marketing/Communications. I’m a Midwest girl…born and raised in Indiana, and now living in the suburbs of Chicago with my wonderful husband and adorable pup named Izzy. Some of my loves are for running, Target, chocolate, iced coffee, couponing and some good reality TV. Now that I’ve introduced myself- you’re probably wondering what this blog is all about! Well, I've always loved shopping and style, and I slowly Read More
