Psst- I’m cleaning out my closet and selling a bunch o’ stuff on Instagram. Check it out!
I feel like colored denim/pants have become quite the trend with literally every color under the sun is an option these days. But if you are looking to build a capsule wardrobe and stick to remixable pieces, you can’t go wrong with four basics: black pants, classic dark wash jeans (duh), and color-wise: olive and burgundy. Olive and burgundy pants are pseudo-neutral and can go with so much!
I styled my burgundy pants in a relaxed outfit to grab a martini (or two) with some girlfriends. I purchased the Old Navy Mid-Rise Rockstar Sateen Pants in both olive & burgundy my budget post last month, and I’m glad I did! They are midrise, falling just below my belly button (I’m 5’5”). They are definitely fitted, especially in the thigh and calves (at least on me- I have what you’d call “athletic” thighs), but otherwise they do run true to size. What’s better is that they are super soft and made with a cotton sateen with just a hint of stretch that helps relax them out a bit, but not so much that they sag by the end of the day. Hate when that happens! Best yet- they are under $35 each (and you can probably do better than that- Old Navy always has promo codes online, and don’t forget to go through Ebates for even more cash back!)
So what can you wear with burgundy pants? Neutrals work well. Think black, grey, cream/ivory, cognac and navy. You could also try coral or a blush pink too!
What else would you pair with burgundy pants?

I love your burgundy pants and that cute and cozy hoodie sweatshirt. Both pieces are perfect for Fall.
Wishing you a great week! Ada. =)
Thank you so much Ada- they definitely are cozy…it’s the best!
Argh! I am trying to hard not to buy stuff but the only burgundy pants I have are dress pants which I’m currently not wearing. Do I buy jeans in the same color??
Ahh I am a bad influence! I mean, if you aren’t wearing the dress pants to work, I’d imagine a more casual pair of pants would get more wear…could you sell the dress pants and put it towards the jeans? Good luck :-)
I should just take all my pants to the consignment shop. I’ve lost enough weight that even if I end up in a job where I need to dress up I’ll have to buy new dress pants.
See?! There you go- a win win! New waistline, new pants :-)
Ooh – I am going to check out those burgundy pants! I have athletic thighs too and they look great on you and are the right price!
They are great pants– and you know Old Navy always has promo codes too. They don’t feel like jeans- they are softer and more velvety. YAY for athletic thighs girl! #thestruggleisreal
I’m terrible with fashion but I love that top!
Hey, I think you have some pretty awesome running fashion! ;-) Thanks Kristin!
I know I’ve said it before, but seriously, you look awesome!
I have these pants in black and LOVE THEM. I’ve been tempted to buy the olive and/or burgundy, but I don’t really need them…. eh but I may just pull the trigger after seeing your post. I’m no stranger to colored pants, they’re so fun! And pretty much every top I own anymore is gray, black or white, so I have plenty of options for styling :)
Anne, you are so sweet. Thanks so much!
Oooh I totally would go get them in black if I didn’t have AE denim in that color. I love that they don’t feel like jeans and are softer, almost velvety but not like corduroy. And that is PERFECT that your tops would all match– I find that with my closet Instagram sale, I’m ditching all my colored stuff and have many neutrals left. It’s so much easier!
I am all about my burgundy pants! I can’t believe I haven’t pulled them out yet! Those booties are adorable with them!
I’ll have to browse your blog for more outfit inspiration then! You do such great remixes!
This outfit is so cute!! Love the boots and the slouchy sweatshirt to contrast them. Those pants are super flattering on you!!
Thanks Bri! So glad to get out those booties– I think it dresses up an otherwise casual outfit!
The love that top and it’s cowl neck! It looks so cozy. Also, I love how you put everything together. I have a few similar pieces, so maybe I’ll try to recreate it :)

It really is comfy and cozy- I want it in other colors…I know they have olive and maroon! Thanks for reading!
I am pretty sure I have these same pants from Old Navy but from last year – they’re SO comfortable, and I love how they fit me! I’ve been wearing them tons lately, especially with any tops that are black, white, or gray. I also love wearing them with a chambray shirt :) You look super cute in this outfit – that sweatshirt looks SO comfortable!
Twinsies! They are so great with neutrals, which is exactly what I’m trying to carry in my closet these days (hence my ridiculous Instagram closet sale!)
Love that top!! I have my first stitch fix coming this week in over a year! SOOO excited :) Need some new fall gear
Oh, you’ll have to share what you got! I have one scheduled for my birthday this month, hope I get some keepers!
