Height & weight: will be at his next checkup- at the 12 month mark!
Diaper: Size 4
Clothes: 12 months (or 6-12 months, depending on the brand); pants are starting to fit him well length-wise…must have hit a growth spurt with all that eating he’s been doing!
Eating:
Bottle– transitioned to 3 feedings a day (morning, mid-day and right before bed), 8 oz each. All formula at this point.
Food– Lots to report here! Eating three meals a day like we do, and really perfecting the idea of using his fingers to feed himself. It’s so fun that he can eat with us, and eat many of the same foods (like this new-to-me recipe, but without the spice). Haven’t attempted too much with silverware yet, but I got these spoons, recommended as the first step to self-feeding and he does well with them! He has tried such a large variety of food and current favorites are meat (anything from chicken to turkey to ground beef to salmon), berries and noodles…oh, the noodles! This boy can pack away the food! We have likely pin pointed that dairy is probably something he isn’t ready for yet- when he has cheese or yogurt, he gets a very slight red rash along his temples and not sure if it was related, but he got some pretty bad diaper rash for the first time that Desitin/Aquaphor didn’t do much on…pediatrician said it could be yeast-related so we did baths with a little baking soda and used this stuff on his bottom, which helped a lot. All that said, hopefully we are able to pin point the cause so it doesn’t happen anymore!
Loves drinking out of his sippy cup too. I’ve also read that around this time, babies can transition to start to use a straw and he’s been taking sips out of my smoothie with a straw with great success, so this cup will be a nice little upgrade from his current one that I’ll plan to include in his Easter basket! We also work on brushing his teeth with this cute toothbrush after meals. Oh, and hopefully soon– when we eat out or are at the grandparents house and I don’t use these disposable mats, we are excited to try this plate/placemat combo…came highly rated, so we will see! And since I’m talking all products food-related, we also are big fans of using bibs like these that collect food that falls down. MAJOR help in keeping him semi-clean, although stuff does fall into his lap, but Izzy eagerly awaits helping clean up after him! And Bryce has figured out that he can reach inside the little trough as I call it and grab some more food that he missed…it’s adorable!
Sleeping:
-still two naps a day: mid morning around 9/9:30 ranging in time, usually an hour and then in the afternoon around 2, usually 90 minutes or so– but then again, some days he just fights it or takes a quick cat nap.
-after his bedtime routine, bath, etc. he gets a bottle between 7 and 7:30 and the moment he finishes it, he snuggles into me and falls asleep. So precious. Then (most times) he goes in the crib on his belly and will sleep away, waking up around 6 or 6:30am…quite the early riser, although lately he has been getting up around 1am crying, but after I hold him/rock him for a few minutes, he usually goes right back to sleep. We are trying to give him the opportunity to self-soothe before we get him, and sometimes it works, sometimes :-) He has such a strong personality and will let you know what he wants, that’s for sure…and he hasn’t even started talking yet- watch out!
The Highlights:
-Did I mention we have a little woodchuck for a baby? The kid has clearly been teething– there are gnaw marks along the edge of his crib, no joke. Makes sense though, because a few new teeth have made their way through! At 8 months really only had the two lower front teeth and now he has the four front teeth!
-Currently infatuated with: electrical outlets/cords (oh, the baby proofing), opening and closing drawers and playing with spatulas and his baby food containers, etc., looking out the windows- which are the perfect height for him (and Izzy), playing with the wheels on his high chair and pulling on his baby gate at the bottom of our staircase– it’s cute, like he is a little prisoner trying to escape! He’s such an explorer, and you can tell he is so interested in knowing how things work, or the cause and effect of things.
-Also enjoys feeding his food to Izzy, which at first was cute, but now is becoming a little problematic…will need to work on this!
-And his two favorite toys right now? His walker and activity table. He LOVES walking around the house with his walker and has gotten to be quite speedy at it, which makes me think he might be walking on his own very shortly! And at first, he had trouble turning the walker around corners or the kitchen island, but now? He’s a pro! So remarkable to see him learn and figure it out. And he loves standing and being mobile more than anything, so the activity table is fantastic for him. He loves the music and bobs up and down and “dances” to it…cuteness overload.
-He also really picks up on our behaviors and actions. Fittingly enough around Valentine’s Day, he mimicked us smacking our lips for kisses. And he babbles a LOT…definitely using his voice- sometimes for shrieks when he wants something…it’s so loud, lemme tell ya! Boy’s got some lungs!

Im intrigued by the spoons– keep me posted and let me know how he does and how easy they are to clean! 1 year will be here so soon!
We are loving the spoons! He is using them for oatmeal, yogurt, etc. and it really helps him versus the longer baby spoons I typically use to feed him. With these, he can hold on and feed himself a bit easier. At first, I was skeptical of what made these special, but the reviews are great on them!
Such a cutie pie! He’s growing so fast!
Thanks Laura- I have to agree :-) And time is flying by…why so fast?!?! I’m sure you feel the same with Claire!
