This black and white striped peplum top caught my eye when I was returning something at Banana Republic Factory not too long ago. I love the angled stripes and the V cut in the back! (There were a some red/cream striped version too.) Not sure if peplum is considered “in style” still, but I love this top either way and plan to wear it much more—with jeans, under a blazer or cardigan, with a pencil skirt, etc.
Much to my surprise, I did discover that peplum is still in style. The EXACT same day, my summer intern wore the same outfit. I mean the same—black and white striped peplum, pink statement necklace—the whole gettup. It was a little awkward! Not sure if I should consider myself stylish, or that I’m a 28 year old dressing like a college student. Maybe we are both just super stylish twinsies…or at least I’d like to think!

It’s an unbeatable combination right?! Thank you Claire!
I think you should take it as a major accolade for your style that irrespective of your age, you know whats in style and can dress the part. I bet the intern felt quite proud to have emulated you to the T. :)
You are so sweet- thank you so much!
That top is so cute! I love all diagonal stripes!
That is what drew me to it- something a little bit different…plus the V cut in the back!
Such a cute striped peplum top! This is a terrific outfit and I would definitely go with you are stylish. Your intern just happens to be stylish, too. ;)

Thank you Jennie- I’d like to think so too! :-)
My assistant and I used to wear the same colors almost EVERY day on accident. It was the weirdest thing. I think in your case she’s just trying to copy your amazing sense of style and you should be flattered!
It must be a weird phenomenon in the workplace! Thanks Katie :-)
That top is super flattering!!
And, yes, I think you must have a very stylish intern. She already understands how to dress in the professional world!
Every so often all of us in my office (guys and gals) will show up wearing the same color. It’s always a bit odd.
I think the cut and the angled stripes really work well! I think it’s funny how people tend to “evolutionize” their dress to match others in the workplace…so interesting!
That top looks like it was made for you, Valerie! I really like the v-cut in the back as well. I can imagine this working for much more formal/professional outfits, but also looking wonderful with some skinny jeans!
Exactly! I can’t wait to wear this as a more casual/outside of work outfit too!
