I just finished my Birchbox subscription and decided not to renew again. I will admit- I did find some fantastic brands that I use in my current makeup routine (i.e. Dr. Jardt BB Cream and 12 Benefits Hair Treatment) as a result of using Birchbox, but I decided to pass on a renewal this time around to see what else was out there.
Another similar subscription service is Beauty Box 5. Like Birchbox, it is a subscription-based, beauty sampling program that delivers a box filled with 5 cosmetic samples to your door every month. According to their website, “you’ll receive a mixture of luxury, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Your beauty box will include a selection of makeup, hair care, skin care, nail care, fragrances and beauty accessories.”
I received the following items in my Beauty Box 5:
-La Fresh Travel Lite Facial Cleansing Wipes: great for travel, post-gym touch ups
-H2O Plus Hydrating Treatment: need all the moisturizers I can get with this dry skin from winter!
-Bellapierre Cosmetics Eyeshadows Shimmer Powder: super shimmery- probably not for work…
-Nubar Nail Lacquer Alter Ego Collection: cute shimmery look that could be layered over a plain color
-Ofra Cosmetics Sultry Lipgloss Plumper: great to have in my purse for touch ups!
Pricing for Beauty Box 5 is offered at several price ranges:
My opinion? I got a mixed of full sized and trial/samples and the items were all things I would likely try out. It is very comparable to the only other subscription box service I’ve tried (Birchbox.)
The pricing is really good compared to Birchbox if you get a yearly subscription, although you don’t earn points for purchases like Birchbox does, although BB5 members get “exclusive discounts from partner brands.”
Do you get BB5? What kinds of things have you gotten? Birchbox vs. BB5- which do you prefer?
Disclosure: I received a complimentary Beauty Box 5 in exchange for a review on my blog. All opinions are my own.
I’m about half way through my year long subscription with Birchbox, and probably won’t renew it either. I also found the dr jardt cream (which I LOVE!) and some perfume, but overall I feel like I get more items that don’t fit to my lifestyle (if I get anymore tea I’m going to pitch a fit). I might try the BB5 box next- thanks for the review!!
Dr. Jardt is AMAZING!! And I’m with you on the tea…and I got about a million hair conditioners- ugh! I’ve heard good things about BB5 and pricing seems much better for a year…let me know if you end up going for it- would love to see what you get!
