So I had a $25 credit in my Stitch Fix account and figured I might as well get a fix coming my way! Plus, it had been a while since I had gotten a fix and I am still waiting on my Wantable Style Edit to arrive (last one was in May).
Here is what I asked for in my profile:
No accessories. Want timeless, classic, simple pieces in plain colors- not too many patterns. Think J.Crew, Loft, Banana Republic. No dolman sleeves, boxy tunics or sheer tops. New momma, want casual clothes (semi-form fitting) I can wear with regular bra. Please see Pinterest board for specific pieces I want.
And here is what I got…apologies for the photos. Took these quickly during naptime, hence the bare feet, crazy hair and general lack of makeup. But hey, that’s real life!
First up in the August 2015 Stitch Fix Review: the Market & Spruce Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee
Plain and simple- just what I asked for. But it is kind of sheer (I have a tank underneath), and if I am going to pay near $50 for a shirt, I better be able to wear just the shirt and not have to worry about a cami underneath.
Next up: 41 Hawthorn Breyson Pleated Tab-Sleeve Blouse
This was my favorite piece in my fix. But, I did receive the exact same shirt in a previous fix (although it was teal and a different material.) Kind of frustrating. The color is described as coral, but it is more of an orange color. I felt that the material on this version laid nicer than the knit version, which was clingy. And I love that you can wear the sleeves long or 3/4 length. (Apologies for the dark bra there- whoops!)
Third item: Market & Spruce Alan French Terry Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan
Perfect- a neutral, comfortable cardigan! I liked how it laid when it was open, but when zipped, it fit me weird. The draped neckline was nice, but there is the fabric underneath that I don’t know what to do with! Perhaps if I got one size larger it would work? Besides, I got this asymmetrical zip jacket from UnderArmour as part of my June budget…
Got the Gilli Darby Maxi Dress
My stylist saw this Gilli maxi dress on my Pinterest board and apparently it wasn’t available, so she sent something similar. It’s similar, but I really wanted a maxi dress with black in it, and one that had short sleeves. Oh well!
Rounding out my fix was the Papermoon Kasidy Swing Skirt
I didn’t care for the swing skirt style- it doesn’t flatter my figure. I looks best tucked in, but I wasn’t a fan of the print either and don’t think it’d be very remixable. That was a definite no.
So, even though I feel like my stylist mostly stuck to my notes, I ended up sending everything back. Just wasn’t overly attached to any of the pieces. Would you have kept anything?

LOVE the maxi on you- but ya… kind of underwhelmed by everything else! (I do love that wrap cardigan but I totally get why you said nope!)
Thanks for reading Alli :-) Yeah it the maxi was only black, I’d be a little more likely to keep it. I own a couple navy printed maxis and couldn’t justify adding another to my closet!
I think I wouldn’t have kept anything either. It’s all cute, but nothing is overwhelmingly, “I HAVE TO HAVE THAT!”
My thoughts exactly :-)
The cardigan is cute open, but, I agree that it doesn’t do you any favors when zipped up. I got that same short-sleeved shirt in a previous fix and didn’t end up keeping it, either.
I like the fabric and style of the orange top but I can see how it would be frustrating that they sent you something basically the same as something you already turned down.
And the maxi dress is cute but I can see how it doesn’t fit your criteria, either.
Yeah I wish the top we got was in a different color…I may have been more likely to consider it. And you’d think they would keep track of what they sent so you don’t get a duplicate (or very similar?) Ahh, technology!
My current dream job is to work from home as one of their stylists so I could tackle issues like that. Sadly, they never seem to be hiring in Chicago :(
ABSOLUTELY! I’d totally do that too. I keep checking, but nothing yet. You’d think they’d want to be in a “Fashion Hub” like Chicago! :-)
The cardigan/wrap is cute, but I agree it hard to know what to do with that extra fabric. I’ve been nervous to try StitchFix just for this reason, what if I don’t get anything that I love and then I would feel like it was wasted. I do think the blouse with the tab sleeves is cute, but I don’t love the orange.
Thanks for reading, Allison! Yes, it’s a gamble not knowing if you’ll like anything, but I think that’s part of the fun! Can’t beat a little surprise in the mail (and much better trying things on at home versus in store, hands down!)
If the blouse with the tab sleeves was in a true coral color, I might have been more tempted :-)
It’s too bad that the maxi wasn’t quite what you were looking for–it looks great on you!

I do like the gray cardigan and think asymmetrical zip is really cute, but I agree it’s a bit weird to put an asymmetrical zip with the flowiness of that cardigan. The extra material would drive me nuts. I like the orange top as well but I wouldn’t keep it if I had a very similar shirt in my closet.
I like the maxi and orange top but if you already have the same top I would have sent it back too. They sent me the hi-low tee in gray and I felt the same way. Too much money for a sheet top that is pretty plain. Good luck next time!
Exactly- I don’t get the sheer top thing..I don’t want to have to wear two shirts every time especially at that price point! Hope you get a good fix next time too!
