Happy 2013 to you! I honestly can’t believe how fast 2012 flew by…where does the time go?! In any case, I’m looking forward to a wonderful 2013!
Tyler and I rang in the New Year with a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. I wore this for the occasion:
Sweater: Old Navy (recently on sale)
Jeans: American Eagle
Shoes: Nine West (DSW)
Necklace : Gift from sis-in-law (Charming Charlie’s)
It seems like sparkle and glitter were very trendy for NYE so I decided to partake on a small level with my nails :-)
I was very excited to finally use the tripod that Tyler got me so I can use the self-timer on my camera when he isn’t around to take photos for me. Thanks babe!
Then Izzy wanted to get in on a photo…
After dinner, we came home and jumped into our pajamas and busted out the Wii and watched movies. We enjoyed some delicious Cupcake Moscato and red velvet cake balls that I made, courtesy of Iowa Girl Eats. They are SO good. And addicting. #chocoholic
I also have some personal resolutions for 2013 and now that I have a blog, I figured I should actually write them down so I can make myself more accountable and just put it out there so here goes!
1) Blog more!
I’m pretty new to the blogging world still (just had my first post at the end of September), so I plan to make more regular posts about my style in my clothing, home, fitness, etc. After reading/following some of my favorite blogs, I’ve got plenty of inspiration for posts to take me through the next year. I resolve to have lots of fresh and fun content, and continue to learn more about blogging, blog etiquette, unique post ideas, etc.
2) Stick to the budget.
Every year, my husband and I make a detailed budget based on our previous year’s income and expenses. (We are Excel geeks.) One of the areas in which I want to reign in my spending is in the clothing category. I plan to track my clothing expenses and make a post each month with what I bought and if I stayed within budget, much like Franish or other budgeting bloggers. I’ve never really tracked it before, so it should be interesting! I’m hoping this will help me look at my closet and remix items I have to make new outfits. I’ve already done the trick where you put all your hangers backwards in your closet and anything still facing backwards at the end of the year gets donated/sold. Other items in the budget include a few home projects too like updating our stairs, making a custom built-in desk and a few other things…posts will be made accordingly :-) We’ve also got a couple of weddings to look forward to and a vacation on the docket, so it should be a busy and fun!
3) Maintain weight (or lose some!)
Back in July, I decided to join Weight Watchers to help me learn to eat properly so that all the running/working out I did didn’t go to waste. As of today, I am down 30 pounds and feel GREAT! I hope to maintain this weight (or lose some more) by eating healthy and continuing to run and workout as usual. Our upcoming vacation and weddings will be good motivation to maintain my healthy lifestyle!
4) Drink less pop.
Let’s face it, pop (or soda- depending on where you live), is really bad for you. I don’t like to drink my calories so I drink diet pop, but it is still terrible. I plan to drastically reduce my intake and replace it with water or coffee (for caffeine purposes). It’d be great to do this as well as the “Month Without” exercise I found on Pinterest…mine would involve lots of baked goods & chocolate. :-)
5) Run!
I LOVE to run, and plan to continue all through 2013. I hope to push through winter with treadmill workouts and then get outside ASAP once the weather gets nicer and hit the pavement/trails. I really want to track mileage, race results, etc. like MagMileRunner and ilaxSTUDIO (did I mention that I love numbers and infographics?! I can’t help it…I’m in marketing!) I also have several races written down in my planner that I’d like to do (lots of 5ks, at least two 10ks- one in August and one in September), and I’m still considering doing a half marathon. I did the inaugural Rock & Roll Chicago Half Marathon in 2009 and really enjoyed it so I’m not sure why I am hesitating…but I will continue to ponder it!
Congrats on losing the weight and keeping it off this year! That is awesome!
I like your idea to track money spent on clothing! And I should try the hanger thing… although I kind of know what I don’t wear. Sigh. I always have a lot to donate because I don’t wear it.
Thanks for the shout out! How do you plan to track your miles? I use google docs, but I know Maggie uses dailymile and other stuff. :)
Thanks! Yeah I thought I knew what I wore/didn’t wear…and then I was in denial about some pieces so if those hangers are backwards after four seasons- it’s gone! And as for tracking miles- I’ve got a really simple Google Doc but I think I want to check out dailymile…looks fun!
I really like your sweater. I’m almost embarrassed to admit that a tan sweater just like that is on the top of my “holes in my closet” list – I think it has so much potential!
And if you ever post about your budget, I’d love to have you participate in budgetting bloggers (or as I like to call it, shopoholics (not so) anonymous. It’s really helped me stick to my budget!
Thanks so much for checking my blog out! Yeah I really love this sweater…certainly matches with a lot of stuff! I definitely plan to do a monthly post on my clothing budget (in order to stick with my New Years resolution)…I’d love to participate- seeing it on your blog was a large part of what inspired me to do it! :-)
