In about a month, my little baby boy will be turning 1. When did this happen?! When they say that time flies, they aren’t kidding. Time for those 1st birthday party festivities!
As of now, I don’t think we are doing a themed party like animals, woodlands, trucks, Sesame Street, etc. We might do a general color scheme, but want to keep things simple and not get too caught up in Pinterest, etc. Just a celebration for Bryce with our close family and friends, some good food (including what I hope to be an epic cake smash) and sharing in fun memories over the past year.
First things first: I needed to get some invitations made, and it was perfect timing when the folks at Minted reached out to me. I’ve ordered Christmas cards from them in the past, and was really pleased with their quality and how easy it was to order versus some other giant photo sites out there…
I selected these invitations, and was able to make some extra customizations beyond a few color schemes they offered where an artist adjusted the colors of the text to match his shirt. The process was super easy and wasn’t any extra charge. Love how they turned out! I didn’t take a photo of the back, but I was able to put some additional info for guests on the back and include another photo.
And besides the invites, Minted had matching thank you cards. They think of everything! Even some seriously cute birthday party decor– where you can get themed items and even personalize them- from banners to garlands to table signs, cupcake toppers, party signs/backdrops, table runners and confetti, hats/crowns- you name it. And if the quality is anything like the invitations and art I got, it’s going to be good.
I got the invitations right away (they were packaged really well, by the way) and then started thinking about some decor. I was thinking that our dining room buffet would hold some of the food we will serve, and I wanted to spruce it up- maybe a garland/banner, jars of candy for color, and a focal point…and what could be better than pictures of my little man?!
That’s where this beauty came in:
I got the Heart Snapshot Mix in a white frame in 16 x 16. (They also make a foil-pressed version…and you can take advantage of their semi-annual sale with 20% off all foil-pressed products until 3/14.)
But guys, this this thing is GORGEOUS. I am a huge Instagram nerd, so when I saw this I knew it’d be perfect- a wonderful compilation of photos of Bryce’s first year. Perfect to display at his birthday party, and a wonderful keepsake to display on our walls for years to come.
A huge thanks to Minted for helping me prep for Bryce’s 1st birthday. And if you are in the market for invitations, decor or artwork of any kind, check out Minted. You won’t be disappointed.

I can’t believe he’s almost 1 year old! The secret to getting the best birthday cake smash, is to give him a couple practice attempts in the week or so before his birthday. I found that if they know what cake is, they are much more likely to go all in and not just cry like our Bryson did ;) Good luck!
EXCELLENT advice, Emily! Ok, we will definitely do some practicing ahead of time. Thanks for the tip!
Love that collage, it looks fantastic!
Thanks Betsy! It was SO fun to create–thank goodness I’m an Instagram junkie :-)
